Boise, Idaho –-(Ammoland.com)- The Balios Lite Gen 2 AR Pistol is exceptional for tactical performance. The lightweight, maneuverable platform is perfect for short and mid-range shooting. Hitting targets on the move with accuracy and limited recoil gives you a major tactical advantage in the field.
As with all of 2A Armaments products, the highest level machining processes are used to build each component. The lower and upper receivers have a CNC Machined 7075-T6 billet with a flared mag-well on the lower and a slick slide port door on the upper. The bolt and full mass carrier use precision QPQ process and cryogenic for optimum performance and durability in the field.
The trigger has an optional light or heavy hammer spring to fit your trigger sensitivity preference. Every shooter is different on the trigger, and even with that being the case, few firearms offer choices in spring sensitivity. The KAK/Shockwave Tech also stabilizes the pistol for accuracy against successive shots. Keep on hammering and your firearm will remain steady and true.
Made in Idaho, the Gen 2 AR Pistols are made with American pride by passionate shooters who use the same AR's they manufacture. You won't find a better performing AR pistol on the market.

Josh Wayner builds a .450 Bushmaster AR-15 Hunting rifle from off-the-shelf parts, but the build runs into trouble. Keep reading this series & see what the issues were and how they can be resolved. Building a .450 Bushmaster AR-15 Hunting Rifle with Brownells
GRAND RAPIDS, MI USA -(Ammoland.com)- The .450 Bushmaster is a unique case in today’s hunting and shooting world, both literally and figuratively.
In this article, I will be building an AR-15 with the help of my good friends at Brownell’s. I will delve into some of the good, the bad, and the ugly as far as this cartridge is concerned and I’ll show you how to make a gun that shoots well.
One of the most interesting parts of the .450 BM is that it is a really terrible cartridge in almost every sense of the word. It is large and heavy, despite being designed around lightweight semiautomatic rifles, is relatively slow, has a rebated .308 size case head, and a somewhat undefined performance spectrum. The cartridges use magnum pistol powder, small rifle primers, and .452” bullets. Nothing about this cartridge seemed destined for success, especially with the known issues it has in most AR mags (a topic so maddening that I have devoted an entire upcoming article to it).
Certainly, the .458 SOCOM and other big-bore rounds would be better, right? I think so, but hunting laws don’t really care about what this writer thinks.
For all the strange attributes this cartridge has, it is rapidly growing in popularity and is fast becoming a favored round in states that prohibit bottlenecked cases, such as my home state of Michigan. No other cartridge out there really offers the same power, versatility, and legality of the .450 BM. It wasn’t what the law was written for, but if the shoe fits…
An interesting point in this conversation is that the .450 is drifting away from semiautomatics somewhat. It is a very easy conversion for a .308 bolt action rifle, as all that is required is a barrel change. Most modern .308 rifles have AICS compatibility, such as the Ruger Gunsite Scout, and the .450 fits and feeds easily in .308 magazines. The growing trend in bolt actions has overshadowed what good is coming out in the semiauto game, and that just isn’t fair considering what is available now, especially from Brownell’s. While reading this article you will notice that there Brownell’s product codes next to the parts so that you can see what I used to build this awesome rifle.
The center of the build here is Brownell’s amazing barrel, bolt, and muzzle brake set (Brownells 450 Bushmaster 16″ Barrel for Carbine Gas System: 080-001-361WB). I decided on this barrel set because it has everything I needed to make the gun a .450 BM. Unlike the very popular .300 Blackout, which is only a barrel change away from a standard 5.56mm AR, the .450 needs to have a different bolt with a face that has been opened up significantly. The Brownell’s set makes this easy and you won’t have to worry about picking the wrong parts. The barrel is 16” long, features a 1:14” twist rate, and is threaded 11/16-24. The muzzle brake that comes with the set is very effective and looks great in my opinion.
Muzzle Brake included in Brownells 450 Bushmaster 16″ Barrel for Carbine Gas System set
Continuing with the upper receiver, I decided to go an unusual route and went for an Aero Precision model with no forward assist (AERO Precision AR-15 Stripped Upper: 100-014-637WB).(Editors NOTE: the ejection port on the stock Aero upper part listed here does not accommodate big bore cartridges without gunsmith modifications, proceed at your own risk.)
Why didn’t I go with a ‘big bore’ upper that already has the ejection port opened up for the larger .450 cases?
I decided to do this the old-fashioned way in much the same way that a hobby builder would go about it. People tend to treat this gunsmithing stuff like witchcraft, but in reality, it is easy and takes only a few minutes with a Dremel Tool. I figured that many people out there would be unaware of ‘big bore’ uppers and would buy a standard one. I modified this one easily in about a half hour. Not much material needs to be removed.
Modified Ejection Port: People tend to treat this stuff like witchcraft, but in reality, it is easy and takes only a few minutes with a Dremel tool.
Inside the upper, I opted for the Brownell’s mil-spec M16 bolt carrier group (078-000-250WB) and the Brownell’s AR-15 charging handle (078-101-153WB). These were simple additions and I knew that they worked well. The charging handles on my other guns tend to be larger and stick out more. I wanted something slimmer and less likely to catch while out hunting.
The next two items I used to finish the upper were from Midwest Industries. Due to height considerations and not wanting the gas tube to be bent going into the receiver, I picked the Low Profile gas block (100-002-854WB). Using an AR-10 gas block will make the tube sit too high in relation to the upper receiver. The handguard I settled on is the brand new Midwest Industries Combat Handguard (100-030-229WB). This is an awesome handguard, fits tight, and is very, very lightweight. Also from Midwest Industries was the bipod adaptor that I used to fit the Harris BRM (416-005-100WB).
Midwest Industries Combat Handguard
Moving down to the lower receiver, you will notice that there isn’t much at all different from a standard 5.56mm lower. I decided to go old school and picked the Brownell’s M16 A1 lower receiver (080-001-304WB). This is a nice, cool lower that is close in detail to the classic military original. The small parts of the receiver came in one kit from Geissele. This kit contains everything you need to finish a lower except the trigger, which also came from Geissele. The GS2 two-stage trigger (100-011-673WB) is a must-have on any hunting AR rifle. This is an amazing trigger that feels great and breaks like glass. I love it and it makes shooting this powerful rifle very controllable.
The trigger guard I selected is the Brownell’s Billet 7075 (078-101-164WB) and it is great for shooting with gloved hands. The stock I decided on was the Magpul UBR 2.0 in OD Green (100-018-763WB). This is a great stock and allows for the perfect cheek-weld while at the same time being very adjustable. Michigan’s hunting season is long and the weather varies, so I like having an adjustable stock that is as solid as a fixed one. To match, I went with the Magpul K2 grip in OD (100-011-681WB), as I like my grip angle a bit steeper than a regular mil-spec fixture. I used the awesome Geissele Super 42 Braided Wire spring and buffer (100-020-750WB) to finish the lower.
The stock I decided on was the Magpul UBR 2.0 in OD Green.
Assembling the rifle was pretty straightforward for an AR. I had to do some minor hand fitting around the gas block and of course the ejection port. These took me only a little while and could be easily accomplished by a novice.
With the gun assembled, I took it to the range and immediately ran into problems. The rifle wouldn’t feed or eject!
I began looking into this problem and discovered that it was the magazines that were causing the issue for the most part. My odyssey into .450 Bushmaster magazines will be a complete article by itself, as will the trials and problems I had with .450 BM ammo. I wish that I could say that everything went well, but there isn’t much knowledge about the .450 out there and my problems and how I solved them will undoubtedly help you during your own build. I will be covering how this gun shoots in an upcoming article.
I ended up getting the rifle to work and cycle properly, but there were long hours of toil in the process. The rifle build I completed with Brownell’s was fun and a bit of a challenge. The pairing of the .450 and the AR-15 goes back to the roots of the cartridge, but it is still not a great round for the AR platform in my mind. It is, however, fast becoming one of the most popular hunting cartridges around.
Stay tuned for the rest of this article series, where I will be talking about modifying magazines, other great .450 BM rifles, troubleshooting ammunition and accurizing the semiautomatic .450 rifle.

Grand Power K22S Full Size 22LR Pistol – Video Review
USA – -(Ammoland.com)- There's no question that .22lr is a fun round. It's great for training both new and experience shooters alike. Low recoil, negligible blast, and affordable. The challenge is finding a pistol reliable enough that training isn't malfunction-centric. Many options out there are simply smaller copies of the manufacturer's main line, or even worse share nothing in common with the main line. While these pistols might be good for learning to shoot, or simple fun, their characteristics don't always match up well with a carry or competition gun.
Grand Power is no stranger to competition or duty guns so it makes sense that their K22S is built with many of the same features as one of their full-sized guns. If you're not familiar with the Grand Power line take a look at our other articles here. For those who know what they're looking for and those who just want to get to the gun see the tabletop portion of the review in the video below.

Impressed with the build quality and feel of the K22S I was somewhat nervous about range time. .22lr pistols are notorious for being picky about their ammo. It's been my experience with .22lr pistols that once you have one the next step is to buy a variety of ammo and figure out which loads is the most reliable. Thanks to Aguila we had a five different loads to try in addition to the classic Remington Golden Bullet and some Federal American Eagle. Some of the Aguila loads were described as not intended for semi-autos, but what's the point of testing a gun if you don't really test it?
See the results in the Shooting Impressions video below.
The engineers at Grand Power certainly did their homework. The light-weight slide and uncaptured recoil spring are light enough to make for an incredibly flat-shooting pistol. I suspect that were we to swap out the recoil spring we might have been able to make that “bolt-action only” ammunition cycle. Most of the recoil energy is absorbed by recocking the hammer in preparation of delivering another effective strike. I didn't have a .22lr suppressor to mount, but given the slide shape I suspect there's no need for suppressor-height sights.
Overall the K22S proved itself to be an excellent pistol. Full-size features and handling that mimics the rest of the Grand Power line and the most reliability I've experienced in a .22lr pistol. At the time this article was written the street price seems to be around $425 and spare magazines around $29. Those prices parallel most full-size guns and at first may seem a bit higher than a normal pistol of this caliber. Considering the K22S is a higher caliber of .22lr pistol, and one that I know will run I find that price to be fair.

One good example of a good example: The Robar PolymAR-15 rifle, a “factory” Modern Sporting Rifle that uses only top-quality parts from a variety of manufacturers.
U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- One of the coolest things about the Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR), built on the well-known AR-15 platform originally designed by Eugene Stoner, is the fact that the system is largely modular and can be assembled and modified by anyone possessing some basic tools and a bit of mechanical aptitude. Happily, for firearms enthusiasts, “easy to assemble” also translates to “easily customizable”. The concept has been so successful that the AR-15 and its countless variants have earned the names, The Swiss army knife of guns, frankengun, LEGOS for adults and others.
Assuming all the individual parts are within specification, a builder only needs to verify chamber headspace and mechanical function before heading to the range with their completed rifle. Of course, that doesn’t mean the gun will be “a shooter,” as considerable experience and skill are required to build a highly accurate rifle. Generally, however, a frankengun will usually perform safely and reliably, even if the builder doesn’t possess major gunsmithing chops.
For these reasons, every hardcore firearms enthusiast eventually considers buying, building or modifying their own “ultimate” MSR. The idea of having a personalized rifle is highly appealing, but it’s often a practical matter as well. What one shooter considers the supreme MSR might be nearly useless for someone else. A 3-gun competitor has far different needs than a special-forces operator. Similarly, someone teaching their spouse to use a rifle for home defense doesn’t have the same set of requirements as a police officer. Likewise, building a gun for coyote hunting at 500 yards is different than building a rifle to take out feral pigs at tag-you’re-it distances.
That’s why it’s smart to consider the intended purpose of the gun before everything else.
Decisions can then be made regarding complete guns or individual components that best serve the guiding purpose. For example, a varmint hunter might prize accuracy above all, while a cop or solider places reliability at the forefront. The more one can define the role and overall requirements of their pending build or purchase, the greater the rewards will be later.
Once the important concepts have been identified, it’s time to decide whether your wish list is available on a production gun, whether you’ll have a reputable builder assemble your custom or semi-custom rifle for you, or if you’ll start acquiring the necessary parts and complete the build yourself. The big problem isn’t finding information, opinions or the parts; enjoy the process, because there’s plenty out there. Rather, it’s winnowing down the overwhelming number of choices into something manageable.
You can’t go wrong basing your ‘Ultimate” MSR build on a set of KSP Gen 2 Polymer upper and lower receivers.
Our Needs
In my case, I place a high value on expertise and experience. I wanted a lightweight, reliable rifle with sub-MOA accuracy, but also wanted to learn as much as possible about putting one of these guns together to share with my readers.
Ultimately, I found that expertise at Robar Guns in Phoenix, Arizona, and opted to start with the Robar PolymAR-15Ti – a solid example of a premium, commercially available rifle that is assembled using the finest quality parts from a variety of sources across the industry. Not only does this rifle meet my baseline needs with respect to weight and performance, the people who make it have decades of accumulated experience building these weapons, so their choices speak volumes for the home builder.
The end user of this gun, according to Robar CEO Freddy Blish, is the soldier, police officer or hunter who will hump the gun long distances and needs a rugged, totally reliable and highly accurate weapon.
“The goal was to go light,” Blish says, “for situations where you might be carrying the gun for long periods of time. You know, ounces are pounds and pounds are pain!”
Blish also acknowledges a secondary market: “I don’t want to say that the PolymAR-15Ti was designed for smaller-statured people or women, but those customers have become a good audience for us because they love the lightweight.”
Weighing in around 4.75 pounds, nearly two pounds less than the average MSR, the Robar gun comes with guaranteed sub-MOA accuracy with appropriate ammo.
Robar choose a considerable number of Bravo Company parts on the PolymAR-15, including at KMR Alpha fore end.
Our Rifle
The PolymAR-15Ti is built around a Kaiser Shooting Products Gen 2 Polymer Upper and Lower receiver set, which is available in three colors. This new action housing has more 7076 hard-anodized aluminum reinforcement in the lower receiver and uses a new polymer composite that is five times stronger than steel for its weight. Blish and his highly experienced gunsmiths chose the KSP components not only for their weight, but also because their strength reduces flex during cycling, which greatly enhances reliability and accuracy.
“Many of our customers need to trust their life to it (the PolymAr-15). We understand that and won’t compromise there,” Blish says gravely.
The weapon’s furniture comes from the Bravo Company Gunfighter series. Several other parts such as the charging handle, fore end, barrel nut and sling mount are also from Bravo. The Bravo fore end uses the KeyMod system and sports a BCM Model 3 vertical grip.
The barrel is a Faxon 1:8 5.56 NATO model mated to a V7 Weapons System titanium, low-profile gas block. Likewise, the titanium QD receiver end plate, castle nut, pivot pin, takedown pin, magazine catch, mag catch button, selector switch and flash hider are also from V7. You can also order a BattleComp 1.5 Ti flash hider.
The Robar Mil-Spec Bolt Carrier Group is custom manufactured from P6 steel (Carpenter 158) and sports their well-known proprietary NP3 surface treatment that combines Teflon with electroless nickel for an unbelievably durable, slick finish. The trigger assembly is an enhanced Robar Mil-Spec group coated in NP3.
FLIR’s compact ThermoSight PRO PTS233 thermal scope is lightweight and produces a wide, 12-degree FOV that’s ideal for close-to-medium-range applications in any lighting conditions.
Topping It Off
The flat top receiver on the PolymAR-15Ti comes standard with a MagPul MBUS backup front and rear folding sight set. On our test gun, however, we wanted to add daytime and nighttime targeting capability, while keeping an eye on overall weight. Ultimately, we chose the compact FLIR ThermoSight PRO PTS 233 thermal-imaging scope as the primary optic for our featherweight MSR.
The FLIR ThermoSight PRO PTS233 was an easy choice for several reasons, but primarily because it sets the bar in the current market for size, weight, power, and performance.
Weighing less than 24 ounces, the compact PTS233 is powered by the FLIR Boson thermal camera core, delivering smaller, lighter optics with increased image performance and range. The FLIR ThermoSight PRO PTS233 offers improved object detection and classification in the field and clean thermal imagery in any light—from low contrast daylight to total darkness—or through light smoke, haze or fog. Additionally, its 19mm-lens produces a 12-degree field-of-view (FOV), which is ideal for close- to medium-range applications. A 4X digital zoom delivers increased versatility and extended range. I also liked the fact that the PTS233 offers multiple thermal imaging palettes and shot-activated, onboard recording of still images and videos. And all of this comes for a price below $2,200—less than many would spend for a quality, day-only optic.
For those seeking additional range in a thermal scope, FLIR offers two other compact and lightweight models in their new ThermoSight PRO line: the 50mm PTS536 with a 4.5-degree FOV (1.65 lbs.) and the 100mm PTS736 with a 3-degree FOV (2.14 lbs.).
The BCM Mod 5 charging handle used on the PolymAR-15 flies above a V7 Titanium castle nut. Also seen at left is the Magpul MBUS backup rear sight.
Tips for the Home Builder
For the would-be home builder, Blish says there are three key components to building a quality MSR: a good quality receiver set, bolt carrier group, and barrel. He also points out that the trigger group is another area where improvement can be especially valuable.
“You really have to work to get a good barrel shooting well with a bad trigger, whereas a good trigger can really help with a less accurate barrel,” the retired Marine Lt. Col. notes.
Cost is often a major motivating factor for building an MSR, and while building a complete rifle at home can definitely save money, scrimping on parts is a fool’s errand. There’s usually a good reason why one component costs more than another.
“You know,” Blish points out, “Pat (famed AR-15 expert, Pat Rogers) used to say, ‘buy once, cry once.’ He’s right. I value quality over price anytime.”
A custom rifle built on the AR-15 platform is certainly within reach of most shooting enthusiasts, should they decide to take the plunge. The only major downside is the fun and satisfaction involved. Yes, I said downside, because once the first rifle is completed, the urge to build another (and another) only grows exponentially. It’s an itch that can’t be ignored.
I recommend you scratch it.
The PolymAR-15 is noted for sub-MOA accuracy, but a more realistic test is a ThermBright hog target engaged with the FLIR PTS-233 while shooting rapid fire off-hand from 100-yards.

Introduced at SHOT Show 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the BRN-10 is a close copy of the original .308 rifle designed by Eugene Stoner in the 1950s. The BRN-10 rifles contain no surplus parts, and are built with all new components manufactured with modern methods.
Available in two models, the BRN-10A and the BRN-10B, the rifles have the distinctive trigger-style charging handle located underneath the carry handle along with overall styling and cosmetics very similar to Stoner’s first rifles.
“Inspired by the original Dutch AR-10 Models, the Brownells BRN-10 Rifles allow the firearms enthusiast to own a faithful recreation, at a fraction of the price for an original AR-10,” said Brownells Director of Product Management Paul Levy. “The receivers, barrel charging handle, bolt carrier group, furniture, flash hider, front sight base and even small components were all styled to honor the original design. Lightweight Gear Delivers Major Advantages for Mountain Hunters
Boise, Idaho –-(Ammoland.com)- Planning a mountain hunt? Weight is a major factor on mountain hunts and whittling away every possible ounce translates into more strength and mobility on the mountain. The rifle is the one area where hunters are traditionally willing to allow for more weight. In part, the extra weight allowance is attributed to the lack of high quality, lightweight firearm options previously available in the market.
2A Armament is making major breakthroughs with extraordinarily lightweight, durable and accurate hunting rifles. Ultralight options are available for every piece of gear imaginable. Your backpack, sleeping system and layered clothing are all measured in ounces. Your rifle shouldn't break that trend by adding 15-pounds to your shoulder. Hunters with a lightweight pack and rifle have a major advantage when scrambling on rocks and hiking through steep inclines.
2A Armament XLR-20 AR10 6.5mm Creedmoor in Kuiu Camo
The 2A Armament XLR-20 AR10 6.5mm Creedmoor in Kuiu Camo is a great example of the perfect mountain rifle. It weighs about the same as many 4-season backpacking tents at an incredibly light 6.88 pounds. The overall weight reduction helps balance your pack and body on uneven terrain. It eliminates the wear on your shoulder from lugging around the dead weight of a heavy rifle and does not sacrifice ounces for quality or performance. Based on rigorous military and tactical field requirements, the rifle is made to perform at the highest level, in the harshest conditions.
If you are hitting the backcountry for elk and deer for days at a time, hogs and coyotes in Texas or simply tackling the most vertical slopes to escape other hunters, a lightweight rifle gives you a major advantage.
2A Armament: State of the Art Firearm Manufacturing
Built with performance and craftsmanship in mind, 2A Armament offers a dynamic line up of hunting and precision rifles, uppers, parts, and accessories. 2A Armament's facilities feature state of the art manufacturing and process controls to ensure the highest possible quality in high-volume, technically demanding components and finished rifles on the market. About Steyr Arms
Prestigious. Legendary. Reliable. The principles that you know Steyr Arms for today were first established by Josef Werndl when he launched Steyr Mannlicher in 1864 with the production of the modern breech-loading rifle system. His patented firearm was renowned for its quality and unique tabernacle gun lock. It was so revered that demand for the rifle quickly grew across the world. Soon, the precursor to Steyr Arms was producing 8,000 rifles per week. Through the decades, Steyr has stared down many challenges and met each with flying colors. Today, Josef Werndl’s drive to produce the most reliable firearms on the market is alive and well in the company. Steyr manufactures top-of-the-line guns that are distinguished as accurate, proven and engineered for precision. In the twenty-first century, Steyr Arms continues to build on its legendary reputation by delivering the best out-of-the-box firearm to its consumers. USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- The old Ruger Blackhawk single action revolver, chambered in 357 mag was showing its age and demonstrating lots of wear spots. The extra 9mm cylinder was in even worse shape. The handgun needed some internal repairs and it needed a facelift. Bobby Tyler of Tyler Gun Works told me to send it to him in Friona, Texas (tylergunworks.com).
Bobby is the premier gunsmith when it comes to having a firearm color case finished. I have a Henry large caliber steel lever action rifle in 30-30 that Bobby had color case finished and it is extremely pleasing to the eye. There is a color case finished tomahawk to accent that 30-30 Henry. Bobby does the custom color case finishing of the factory produced Henry rifles in 30-30 and 45-70 (www.henryusa.com/rifles/color-case-hardened-edition).
When I saw my first Henry Big Boy steel rifle with a color case finish I knew that rifle in 357 mag needed to become the forever companion of the Ruger Blackhawk that was down in Texas at Bobby's gun shop getting the firearms Spa treatment.
Shorter carbine length rifles are something I enjoy shooting and more importantly carrying. The Big Boy steel color case finished carbine, chambered in 357 mag was my preference (www.henryusa.com/rifles/big-boy-color-case-hardened). The shorter 16.5-inch barrel allows for seven rounds of 357 mag ammunition, where the 20-inch rifle version holds ten rounds of ammunition.
You cut out a little weight with the carbine, but Henry installs an octagon barrel on both the rifle and the carbine versions of the Big Boy steel, color case finished rifle. You feel the heft of the rifle when you bring it to your shoulder, but that diminished felt recoil is appreciated.
The rifle and the carbine versions of the color case finished Henry Big Boys are chambered in 357 mag, 44 mag, and 45 Long Colt. Add some of Tim Sundles' Buffalo Bore premium ammunition and there is very little in the lower 48 States of the country, that you cannot safely hunt with your Henry Big Boy.
If you are going to hunt with a handgun cartridge chambered in a lever action rifle you really need to study the feet per second (FPS) of a 357 mag round leaving your rifle and how the actual barrel length affects FPS. I suggest you go to Ballistics By the Inch and read their chart, for a 4 inch 357 mag barrel, up to an 18-inch barrel in 357 mag. What you will find is you gain about 400-500 plus FPS between a 4-inch revolver and an 18-inch rifle, depending on the bullet used.
Tim Sundles at Buffalo Bore Ammo has provided excellent insight and article on pistol cartridges used in rifles, that is well worth the time to read. The 357 mag hits its maximum velocity in a 16-inch barrel. Beyond 18 inches the bullet can actually start to lose FPS. Long barrels are not needed with rifles chambered in pistol cartridges. At Ballistics By The Inch, you can research 357 mag, 41 mag, 44 mag and 45 Long Colt to see how they will perform in your next Henry rifle.
Of course adding a handgun chambered in the same caliber as your new Henry greatly enhances the capabilities of both firearms and the owner who carries these tools into the bush.
You could find a gently used Ruger handgun in the same caliber as your color case finished Henry Big Boy rifle, then ship it to Bobby Tyler and have it color case finished to complement your rifle.
Color Case Hardened Ruger Blackhawk Handgun by Tyler Gun Works
My Ruger Blackhawk, has two cylinders chambered in 357 mag and 9mm. For both cylinders I use Buffalo Bore ammo. I want something that penetrates so I carry the 357 mag 19A, 180 gr Hard Cast LFN, Outdoorsman cartridge. I can use this in both the Ruger handgun and the Henry Big Boy rifle.
When I carry the Ruger Blackhawk with the 9mm cylinder in place I chamber the old handgun in Buffalo Bore's 24L, 9mm, 147 gr Hard Cast FN, Outdoorsman cartridge. Fishing guide Phil Shoemaker used 9mm Outdoorsman ammo to stop a grizzly bear in Alaska. Tim Sundles told me that after that story hit the internet, sales demonstratively increased “we have sold hundreds of thousands of rounds of 24L since the Shoemaker incident”. I guess Mr. Shoemaker's personal product endorsement of Mr. Sundles' life saving Outdoorsman ammo appealed to the ammunition buying public.
I actually bought the Ruger Blackhawk because it had the extra 9mm cylinder. 9mm is the most readily available center fire handgun cartridge in the world. Yes, primarily I will carry the Blackhawk chambered in 357 mag but 9mm offers great versatility. Buffalo Bore 9mm ammo enhances that versatility to a point of life saving capability–just ask Phil Shoemaker.
Good ammunition is as important a tool as a good firearm . Henry makes the great firearms and Buffalo Bore makes the quality ammo that fulfills the hunting mission or the delaying of evil and danger. When your own life is on the line you don't mind spending a little for more quality and reliability.
Buffalo Bore Ammunition Outdoorsman Line
Tim Sundles, at Buffalo Bore ammo makes his Outdoorsman line of ammunition in most pistol calibers. He believes in the penetration of large grain, hard casted bullets. Saving your life or the life of another from a charging grizzly is always “Strictly Business“.
The finished pictures tell the story better than I can. Laying the Ruger Blackhawk with its new color case finished frame next to the factory brand new Henry Big Boy steel color case finished, I knew I had made the correct choice. Both firearms looked the same when it came to the finish. The old Ruger handgun looks as fresh and gorgeous (not a manly word) as the factory new Henry Big Boy.
The reason both firearms looked so great is obvious, Bobby Tyler did the color case finishing work on both the old and the new, and the two look factory ready to dazzle. The bluing that Bobby Tyler did on the barrel and the two cylinders was exquisite and the color case finished frame of the Ruger Blackhawk, just pops when you pick it up. The swirls in the color case finish are never the same on any two firearms. Each gun will be unique.
My personal impression is the gun owning community has rediscovered the exceptional look of a color case finished firearm. The larger the firearm means the greater amount of steel that needs to be finished. So, naturally, a flat sided lever action rifle has lots of surface area that lends itself most willingly to the beauty of a color case finishing.
If you want to throw caution to the wind, when you send your handgun to Bobby Tyler for a color case finishing, you might have his in-house engravers really class up the act. Engraving of firearms is a mainstay of custom finishing at Tyler Gun Works.
Color case finishing of firearms, just says “old world” class. The one of a kind design that each firearm has on completion of the process makes it most unique and desirable.
Class and uniqueness are cornerstones of Tyler Gun Works. You start with the basics of a factory ready Henry rifle, add your choice of a handgun to be color case finished by Bobby and the class and uniqueness simply follow.
Color Case Matched Henry Big Boy Rifle & Ruger Blackhawk Handgun and a Henry Mares Leg (center)
Henry lever action rifles are quality and with a color case finish, they are enhanced quality. Quality lasts, quality is dependable and quality is there when you require that strength of precision in a time of great need.
Hunt with a Henry rifle, delay evil with a Henry rifle and always add in the Buffalo Bore ammunition factor to enhance your shooting success. Second place against a charging grizzly or a marauding “walker” is not a sustainable life practice.

2A Armament – Lightweight Advantage in Sport Shooting
Boise, ID –-(Ammoland.com)- The weight debate is never ending in shooting sports. Heavy rifles and shotguns certainly have their place in the market, especially with big game hunters who locate their quarry long before taking the shot. However, Lightweight rifles have numerous advantages for sport shooting (and hunting for that matter).
The ability to quickly draw, mount and aim is significantly better with lightweight firearms. It becomes an extension of your body and maneuvers quickly for split second decisions. Heavy firearms require more effort and time to set up on a shot. They are also less stable and in many cases require a rest for accuracy.
Lightweight firearms also work really well with specialized accessories. They apply less pressure to mounting points and detach easily from quick release holsters and clips. Tactical equipment and lightweight rifles are a natural fit for sport shooting in casual and competitive environments. The simple fact that the stock rifle is lightweight makes it possible to add accessories, like advanced sights and lighting systems, without weighing down your system.
2A Armanent has perfected the combination of light weight and quality. Using the best materials available, their lightweight designs maintain the highest levels of rigidity and deliver world class performance. The craftsmanship shines through in the details, and their lightweight products give the modern hunter, competitive shooter and firearms enthusiast a major edge in the field.
Lightweight firearms also work really well with specialized accessories.
Key Lightweight Shooting Advantages:
Faster reaction times and draw speed
Stability without a rest
Functional with accessories
Improved tactical functionality

Brownells Offers HK 417 Parts Kits For First Time in U.S.
GRINNELL, Iowa –-(Ammoland.com)- Brownells is offering HK 417 parts kits disassembled from real German military machineguns – the first time these kits have been available in the United States.
Brownells obtained fewer than 200 of the HK 417 kits, and it is very unlikely more complete kits will be available once these are sold.
The kits are new, but may exhibit some wear marks from the machinegun disassembly process. They are complete except for a lower receiver, bolt and barrel.
In addition to HK 417 parts kits, Brownells has a large quantity of HK 417 factory lower receiver forgings, and plans to finish them into complete receivers, available for sale in 2019.
HK 417 lower receiver forgings in the Brownells warehouse Tuesday, September 4, 2018.
Also for 2019, Brownells plans to offer bolts and barrels compatible with the HK 417.
“Although HK 417 parts have cropped up from time to time on the US market, they have never been available as a complete assortment, all pulled from one, new firearm,” said Brownells Director of Product Management Paul Levy. “These kits come from new HK 417 machine guns, and are as close to the original gun as most can get. Brownells does have production of lowers, bolts and barrels in the works, and plans to have these out in early 2019.”
