Ruger No. 1 Single-Shot .450 Bushmaster Rifle - Review
Ruger No. 1 Single-Shot .450 Bushmaster Rifle – Review

Grand Rapids, MI USA -(Ammoland.com)- In this fifth installment of my .450 Bushmaster series, I will be taking a look at a very interesting departure from what many think a .450 BM rifle to be: the Ruger No. 1. What makes this rifle special and different from other .450 offerings on the market today? Well, for starters it is a single-shot.

Ruger No. 1 450 Bushmaster Single-Shot Rifle

There has been a race for capacity when it comes to rifles these days. It is no surprise that this has lead to problems with many rifles, especially those in .450 Bushmaster. As I described in my previous articles, there are many significant problems associated with magazine-fed semiautomatics, mostly stemming from said magazines. Problems in reliability can shake a hunter’s confidence in his rifle, and I know a great many of frustrated .450 owners who lament that their ideal hunting cartridge won’t cycle in their ideal hunting rifle.

The simplicity of the single-shot rifle is hard to ignore in the context of hunting. Americans have a long and romanticized history with single-shots, going back to the Civil War era, which saw the widespread acceptance of the Sharps rifle and other big-bores. As we manifested our destiny and headed west, the large single-shot became a staple of the buffalo hunter and cavalryman alike. Our story has been intricately linked to the single-shot, but the technology simply marched past it and only the most famous survived.

Ruger’s No. 1 is a falling block action like the Sharps, but it is of fully modern design and constructed of modern materials.
Ruger’s No. 1 is a falling block action like the Sharps, but it is of fully modern design and constructed of modern materials.

Ruger’s No. 1 is a falling block action like the Sharps, but it is of fully modern design and constructed of modern materials. The strength of the No. 1 action is such that it can chamber some of the most powerful hunting cartridges ever made. The .450 is not among those in that upper class of powerful cartridges, but it is a contender for this year’s most relevant. As I’ve already written, the .450 is gaining popularity because it is the most powerful commonly available cartridge that fits not only our favorite rifles, but also into state hunting law in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, and possibly more due to its straight case walls.

Simply open the lever and lower the block, insert a cartridge, and close it.
Simply open the lever and lower the block, insert a cartridge, and close it.

The choice to make a No. 1 was entirely logical on Ruger’s part. There is a group of discerning customers that demand something different, not just effective. The .450 has traditionally been an AR cartridge, but today it widely used in bolt actions as well. There are not that many single-shots out there that chamber the .450, as it is a problematic cartridge when it comes to headspace. Unlike many other single-shot cartridges out there, like the .45-70, the .450 has no exterior rim on the case head, in fact, it has a rebated rim. This means that the .450 is less than ideal for use in a single-shot.

Ruger must’ve missed that memo and instead went ahead with making the rifle not only extremely reliable, but also exceptionally easy to use. The operation is simple, with the only moving part in the action being the block. Simply open the lever and lower the block, insert a cartridge, and close it. After firing, lowering the block allows the case to eject straight back. It quite literally shoots straight out and clear of the action. Many single-shots have an extractor, but not an ejector meaning that the case stays in the action, but are just slightly moved out of the chamber.

Ruger includes a set of 1” rings that mount directly to their proprietary base attached to the rifle.
Ruger includes a set of 1” rings that mount directly to their proprietary base attached to the rifle.

The rifle features a 20” barrel, but it has a short 36” overall length. The compact No.1 action allows about 4” more barrel than a typical AR while being shorter overall. Interestingly, Ruger chose to not include iron sights with the rifle. I do lament this, but most people will ultimately end up using a scope anyways. I opted for a simple, fixed 4x Bushnell to approximate what a deer hunter may use in the woods. Ruger includes a set of 1” rings that mount directly to their proprietary base attached to the rifle.

Firing the rifle was quite a bit different than when shooting with an AR. The trigger is light but crisp, allowing great precision. I was surprised at how easy and fast the gun was to reload. I am far more used to Sharps and other hammer-fired single-shots that have a multi-stage loading and cocking process and the simple speed of the No. 1 was noticeable. While not as fast as a bolt action, the rifle could be reloaded in just about a second if a spare round is handy. I would recommend a stock sleeve that has loops for spare cartridges.

Another comfort feature is the muzzle brake.
Another comfort feature is the muzzle brake.

The stock is very comfortable and is made of an attractive grey laminate that nicely compliments the stainless steel of the barrel and action. The stock is fixed and does not feature butt spacers. Another comfort feature is the muzzle brake. I picked up a bit of speed over my 16” Brownell’s AR rifle due to the fact that the gun has no gas system and a longer barrel.

I tested the same four loads as my prior articles from Hornady and Buffalo Bore over my Oehler 35P chronograph. Accuracy is an average if 3, 5-shot groups at 100 yards.

Buffalo Bore 250gr JHP—————————————————————————– 2259fps, 2.9”
Buffalo Bore 275gr XPB—————————————————————————– 2005fps, 1.5”
Buffalo Bore 300gr JHP—————————————————————————— 1967fps, 2.7”
Hornady 250gr FTX———————————————————————————– 2197fps, 1.25”
Hornady 250gr FTX BLACK————————————————————————–2203fps, 1.25”

I came away with the impression that this is a solid, working rifle for a serious, no-excuses hunter. The gun is exceptionally rugged, was supremely reliable, and very accurate. If you want to turn some heads at the range, this will certainly be your ticket to do so.

Springfield Armory Releases XD(M) OSP with Threaded and Standard Barrel Included

GENESEO, ILL. – -(Ammoland.com)- Springfield Armory announces the release of the XD(M) Optical Sight Pistol (OSP) with a threaded barrel and an additional non-threaded barrel included.

This 9mm package from Springfield Armory is all about options. The optics-ready pistol features a factory milled slide and co-witness suppressor height iron sights, allowing the operator to choose the optic and silencer that fits their needs. As an option, the OSP comes with a Vortex Venom red dot sight pre-installed. The Venom offers a three MOA red dot – a perfect size that balances fast target acquisition with precision. The Venom features ten levels of brightness and a top loading battery compartment that allows the optic to maintain zero through battery replacement.

Out of the box, the XD(M) OSP is ready-to-go with the threaded barrel and thread protector installed. In addition, a non-threaded barrel is provided for those who would like to swap between using a suppressor or going without, or for those frequenting restricted states where threaded barrels aren’t legal.

The 4.5” Melonite treated hammer-forged steel barrel is an ideal size to complement the addition of a suppressor so that the weight is balanced and the pistol is soft-shooting.  A one piece full-length guide rod manages recoil and helps to keep rounds on target through rapid fire. The Mega-Lock grip texturing provides a comfortable yet secure fit in your hand with the full size grip frame, a feature that is among the most notable of our XD(M) products. The backstrap is interchangeable and a small, medium and large option are included to customize the grip to the hand of the shooter.

“You have the versatility of both the threaded and non-threaded barrel without the hassle of going aftermarket which tends to produce complications in fit,” explains Springfield Armory VP of Marketing Steve Kramer. “Because our barrels are factory crafted, there is no risk of an ill-fitting barrel and we are able to provide the kit at a lower cost to our customers.”

The craftsmanship of the XD(M) provides a consistent and reliable platform for the flexibility to conduct a variety of missions.  Mounting plates for the Vortex Venom, Burris FastFire 2, Burris FastFire 3, Leupold DeltaPoint, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, JPoint Sights, and Trijicon RMR are included. The XD(M) OSP kit ships with two 19-round magazines. Two 10-round magazines will be provided for those in restricted states.

The XD(M) OSP with threaded barrel and additional non-threaded barrel raises the bar in versatility and displays the quality performance you expect in a Springfield Armory firearm.

Now available in two configurations:

XDMT9459BHCOSP – XDM 4.5″, Threaded OSP, 9MM – $710.00

XDMT9459BHCOSPV XDM 4.5″, Threaded OSP, 9MM w/Venom – $958.00

Palmetto State Armory's PA65 6.5mm Creedmoor Rifle with Vortex Strike Eagle scope.

USA –-(Ammoland.com)- See this rifle? It’s going to belong to one of you very soon when we give it away.

The kind folks at Palmetto State Armory sent this one to us for testing and evaluation and agreed that it would be a great idea to give it away to a lucky Ammoland reader. Oh, to add some more jazz, the winner will also get the Burris P.E.P.R. quick-detach scope mount and Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24×50 scope shown here.

We’ll get into the details of the scope in a separate article, so here let’s take a closer look at the Palmetto State Armory PA-65 AR-10 6.5mm Creedmoor Rifle.

Palmetto State Armory PA-65 AR-10 6.5mm Creedmoor Rifle ~ The Basics

Since the 6.5mm Creedmoor Cartridge is longer than the standard .223 Remington with a maximum cartridge length of 2.825 inches, it requires an AR-10 platform. The PA 65 AR10 features a 20-inch barrel that is a heavy profile and made of 416R Stainless Steel. It keeps its stainless “silver” coloring, so to me at least, it looks pretty darn spiffy with the black receiver, black furniture, and black A2 flash hider. The 6.5mm Creedmoor barrel is driven by a rifle-length gas system and features a 1:8-inch twist rate which is relatively standard for this caliber.

I like the 15-inch M-Lok handguard - a lot. It's slender, light, and easy to hold.
I like the 15-inch M-Lok handguard – a lot. It's slender, light, and easy to hold.

Both upper and lower receivers are 7075-T6 aluminum and are black anodize hard coated to MIL-8625 Type 3 class 2 standards. Up front, there’s a 15-inch PSA M-Lok rail. I like it. It’s lightweight and slender and feels good in the hand. It’s also filled with M-Lok holes at the three, six, and nine o’clock positions and lots of other ventilation cuts to allow rapid barrel cooling. There’s a rail extension on the rear that lengthens the receiver rail and a short rail segment up front in case you want to mount a backup iron sight.

The bolt and carrier are Nitride treated for durability, slickness, and easier cleaning. The company also puts dual ejectors in the bolt to facilitate more positive ejection. I’ve not been able to see any observable difference in performance between standard and dual ejectors, but it’s there if you care.

The trigger group is made of Nickel Boron treated steel so it's lighter and smoother than standard mil-spec. It's about a $100 upgrade separately.
The trigger group is made of Nickel Boron treated steel so it's lighter and smoother than standard mil-spec. It's about a $100 upgrade separately.

Trigger

This rifle includes Palmetto’s Nickel Boron trigger group. Naturally smoother and slicker than regular steel components, the trigger is crisper and a bit lighter than a standard mil-spec model. Its two-stage operation has a short take-up with just over a pound of pressure followed by short and constant travel that breaks with right around four (4) pounds of pressure. I could classify this trigger as somewhere between a mil-spec and match trigger. It’s a noticeable improvement over mil-spec but still has enough weight and take-up for safe service and defensive use.

There's a short rail segment on the front of the handguard for back-up iron sights on the Palmetto State Armory PA-65 AR-10 6.5mm Creedmoor Rifle.

Magpul Furniture

The rifle includes a 20-round P-Mag, Magpul MOE pistol grip, and Magpul MOE Stock. The pistol grip is black and features the MOE grip surfacing. You can use Magpul Storage Core gear in there to carry spare stuff or some emergency beef jerky if you like. The MOE Stock sports a nice and fat comb area for a good cheek weld, dual water-resistant compartment for spare batteries, parts, or snacks, and sling swivel and loop attachment points. It also has a rubber buttpad so when you lean your rifle against the wall; it won’t go sliding out from under you.

You'll also get a Magpul MOE buttstock and pistol grip with this rifle.

Velocity

If you’re the lucky winner, I wanted you to know in some detail what you’re getting, so I set up a chronograph 15 feet from the muzzle and proceeded to shoot lots of ammo. OK, so maybe I didn’t really have to, but it was a great excuse to spend some quality time with this rifle.

I tested this PA 65 with a variety of 6.5mm Creedmoor match ammo.
I tested this PA 65 with a variety of 6.5mm Creedmoor match ammo.

On the day I tested velocity, it was somewhat warm here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina at 85 degrees. We’re also barely 20 feet above sea level, at least at the range where I was shooting. If you live at a higher altitude or will be shooting in colder conditions, your velocity may clock in a bit different than the results shown here. Also, I fired multiple shots and calculated averages to get the numbers shown below.

AmmoAverage Velocity

(feet per second)

Sig Sauer OTM 6.5mm Creedmoor 140 grain2,471
Hornady Precision Hunter ELD-X 6.5mm Creedmoor 143 grain2,566
Hornady Match ELD 6.5mm Creedmoor 147 grain2,617
Hornady Match ELD 6.5mm Creedmoor 140 grain2,593

Accuracy

As the trigger is more of a service model than a target trigger, and because it has a four-pound weight, I elected to fire 100-yard groups with a best five of six model. I figured that the extra shot would help rule out shooter error.

With careful shooting, I got good 100-yard groups with this rifle. The Hornady 140-grain Match ELD performed extremely well compared to others.
With careful shooting, I got good 100-yard groups with this rifle. The Hornady 140-grain Match ELD performed exceptionally well compared to others.

I did try something a bit unusual because I just happened to have five hand-loaded rounds tipped with Hornady 140-grain Match ELD bullets. I initially loaded these for a bolt gun, so the overall length is a bit long for AR-10 magazines. That doesn’t mean you can’t shoot them in the Palmetto State Armory PA65. You just have to load them singly through the ejection port. As you’ll see by the group results below, the PA65 seemed to like those slightly longer cartridges quite a bit.

AmmoFive-shot Group Size

(100 Yards)

Sig Sauer OTM 6.5mm Creedmoor 140 grain1.27”
Hornady Precision Hunter ELD-X 6.5mm Creedmoor 143 grain1.12”
Hornady Match ELD 6.5mm Creedmoor 147 grain2.03”
Hornady Match ELD 6.5mm Creedmoor 140 grain0.96
Handload (long cartridge)0.69

Based on this outing compared to the first time I fired groups, the rifle appears to like bullets in the 140-grain range a bit better. While I’ve gotten some respectable groups with the Hornady 147-grain match ammo, they’ve been more erratic.

Some of my bolt rifle handholds performed very well, but due to longer overall length, had to be loaded individually.
Some of my bolt rifle handholds performed very well, but due to longer overall length, had to be loaded individually.

Usually, the rifle alone retails for $799.99 to $1,149.99 depending on Palmetto State Armory’s current deal. However, with a bit of luck, you can get this one for absolutely nothing. Be sure to enter on our giveaway page!

Over 2,500 AK-47s & RPGs Seized by U.S. Navy in Gulf of Aden

Arizona -(Ammoland.com)- An accurate count of the AK47 type rifles confiscated in the Gulf of Aden on 28 August 2018, has been released.

During 2016, the U.S. Navy intercepted and confiscated several shipments of small arms from stateless dhows in the Arabian sea. Thousands of AK type rifles, hundreds of Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG) were confiscated, along with PKM general purpose machine guns and 21 .50 caliber heavy machine guns. Included in a haul by the French, were some 60 mm mortars,  anti-tank missiles, and 64 Dragunov sniper rifles. From a March 2016 navy.mil article:

The U.S. Navy Coastal Patrol ship USS Sirocco, operating as part of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, intercepted and seized the shipment of weapons hidden aboard a small, stateless dhow. The illicit cargo included 1,500 AK-47s, 200 RPG launchers and 21 .50 caliber machine guns.

The Royal Australian Navy's HMAS Darwin intercepted a dhow Feb. 27, confiscating nearly 2,000 AK-47 assault rifles, 100 rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 49 PKM general purpose machine guns, 39 PKM spare barrels and 20 60mm mortar tubes.

A March 20 seizure by the French Navy destroyer FS Provence yielded almost 2,000 AK-47 assault rifles, 64 Dragunov sniper rifles, nine anti-tank missiles and other associated equipment.

More than two years has elapsed since the last reported seizure. On 28 August, 2018, another seizure was made from a stateless dhow. This dhow was in distress, its engines were inoperative. The initial count of AK type rifles was 1,000.  That number was a severe underestimate.

The Navy has released an accurate count of the AK-47 rifles confiscated on August 28, 2018 in the Gulf of Aden.  The count is 2.5 times the original estimate. The picture above is from the 28 August confiscation.  They look like Chinese type 56S-1 rifles to me. I am sure others can identify them more precisely. They appear in excellent condition. From defense.gov:

MANAMA, Bahrain — The guided missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham seized an illicit weapons shipment containing 2,521 AK-47 rifles Aug. 28, U.S. 5th Fleet officials announced today.

The weapons were found aboard a stateless skiff in international waters in the Gulf of Aden.

The full count follows an initial estimate of more than 1,000 rifles. The skiff was determined to be stateless following a flag-verification boarding conducted in accordance with international law. The origin and intended destination of the skiff have not yet been determined.

A prescient commenter at a previous article noted this:

Most sailors I knew from cross training 30 years ago would have reported 2000 AK if there had been 4000 originally. My army unit would have “borrowed” one each then reported the leftovers.

In the current politically correct navy they probably reported all of them.

It appears the U.S. Navy inventory procedures have tightened up from 30 years ago. Over 2,500 AK47 type rifles have now been reported. Where were the rifles bound? We do not know. Where will they end up? It is uncertain.

In the Gulf, Forbes reported in 2017 that prices in Yemen were about $1,200 per AK47.  2,500 rifles would be worth about three million dollars.

That is a nice haul for the USS Jason Dunham.  It should cover a few days operational costs.

Defiance DMK22 – A Unique Take On .22 LR AR Pattern Rifles

Defiance DMK22 - A Unique Take On .22 LR AR Pattern Rifles
Defiance DMK22 – A Unique Take On .22 LR AR Pattern Rifles

U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- There are a ton of .22 LR AR pattern rifles out there of varying quality, what makes the Defiance DMK 22 stand apart from the competition? A pretty dang cool barrel nut design that allows the use of 10/22 barrels in an AR style rifle.

Why do you need a .22 LR AR pattern rifle? The answer is pretty simple, rimfire ammo is far cheaper than centerfire ammo allowing you to work on fundamental carbine skills more often.

Also because they are fun and everyone likes fun.

Features & First Impressions

When you pull the Defiance DMk 22 rifle out of the box the first thing that really struck me is how much this rifle felt like a centerfire caliber AR-15. One would be really hard pressed to tell the difference at first glance since the only cues that this is a .22 LR are the bolt, magazine and the muzzle device.

The Defiance DMK 22 looks a lot like an AR-15 even though it really isn't one.

Some dimensions on the rifle are just a touch off from what you might be used to like the magwell. While this isn't anything that will hamper any functionality, it is something that I felt was important to mention.

The magwell is a bit out of proportion but still very useable.

Defiance has fitted their own stock and grip on the DMK 22 giving it a slightly nicer appearance than other .22 LR AR style rifles. The stock has a sling slot as well as QD mounts giving you options should you prefer a QD sling. I did find the grip to be far too thin for my tastes but I am sure that it would be ideal for a kiddo.

The Defiance stock is a nice touch.

Once you pull the bolt out of the rifle it is very noticeable how similar it looks to other bolts found in other .22 rifles. When it comes down to it I guess there are only so many ways to make a .22 LR work in a standard AR upper.

The bolt is very similar to other .22 LR AR bolts on the market.

If you buy the Defiance DMK 22 with the intention of converting it to a centerfire rifle I have some bad news, the hole that the buffer would normally reside in isn't present on the DMK 22 lower. I won't speculate why this was done beyond pointing out the fact that this was designed to be a .22 LR AR pattern rifle from the ground up and it does not need a buffer.

The blocked off area where the buffer normally resides.

I know this isn't a hard use rifle, but I was mildly annoyed by the unstaked end plate. I am sure that the rifle will be totally fine with it unstaked but I will probably do it myself to satisfy my OCD.

While it slightly annoyed me, the unstaked end plate shouldn't be a problem.

In order to get the rifle ready for the range, I called up Primary Arms and got a 1-6 scope with the ACSS reticle shipped to me. The scope came with the mount and is probably my favorite .22 scope that I have used to date.

To get the rifle ready for the range I fitted a Primary Arms 1-6 scope for .22lr with the ACSS reticle.

The Defiance DMK 22's Coolest Feature

If you happen to be at your local gun store, you might overlook the coolest thing about the Defiance DMK 22, the barrel nut. Am I crazy? Nope, this really is a cool as heck system that I wanted to dive into with more detail than the rest of the rifle.

Removing the handguard is pretty straightforward, all you need to do is remove the two screws on the bottom and the handguard slides right off.

Removing the two screws allows you to pull the handguard off.

The small block that resides at the top of the rail will fall off when you remove the rail, this is normal.

The handguard has a small block at the top to provide extra support.

Defiance uses a barrel nut that is compatible with regular AR-15 uppers and barrels. The real magic is hiding under here but you are going to need a pretty large wrench to get the barrel nut free.

The barrel nut is probably the coolest part of the rifle.

Now for the real magic! Defiance has designed a barrel extension stub that allows the use of 10/22 barrels in a standard AR-15 upper using a standard AR-15 barrel nut. It is held in place with two set screws that mate up with corresponding dimples in the barrel stub. The small flat piece in the middle fits into where the V block would normally go and draws the barrel into the receiver when the barrel nut is tightened.

Once the barrel is removed you can pull the barrel extension off to reveal a 10/22 pattern barrel.

Range Time

I have been shooting the Defiance DMK 22 for nearly a year now and have found it to be pretty dang useful when working on skill building drills and transitions. When it comes down to it, you really don't need to be shooting centerfire ammo to work on the mechanics of going from a rifle to a pistol or shooting off a barricade or other surface.

I often use a .22lr AR rifle to practice things like rifle to handgun transitions.

Taking shots at small targets while using a surface like this Polaris Ranger bed is something I work on often. In the extremely rare case that I need to use a carbine for hunting or self-defense, the ability to land accurate hits off of a barricade could be critical.

Practicing shooting off things is also something that a .22 like the DMK 22 is ideal for.

The one thing that I find the DMK 22 to lack at is working on rifle reloads. The short 10 or 15-round magazines are hard to get a solid grip on when pulling them from a mag pouch. Sure I could use some full-size Black Dog magazines, but those will not lock the bolt to the rear when the mag is empty. I hope that Defiance offers a full-size mag sometime soon, that would make reload practice with the DMK 22 much more viable.

Practicing reloads is less than ideal with the DMK 22 due to the short magazine bodies.

Is the rifle accurate? That depends on your definition of accurate. I found it accurate enough for my uses as a training tool and didn't bother shooting the rifle off a bench after I zeroed the Primary Arms 1-6 ACSS scope. I am sure that it is more than capable of nice groups at 25, 50, or even 100-yards, but personally, I would turn to something with a more traditional stock if that was my goal.

Conclusion

The flexibility that the DMK 22 gives you is something that you really should take note of. The fact that you can use any 10/22 barrel to configure the rifle as you like rather than be limited to the rather narrow selection of .22 LR AR barrels that most AR pattern .22s use is a huge benefit.

While my gripes with the rifle were really nitpicky, they are all very easy to address. While the handguard's proprietary mounting system annoys me it probably wouldn't be an issue for most buyers. If you are one of the few that found it annoying changing the handguard out is a snap unlike most other .22 LR ARs like the Smith & Wesson M&P-15 22. The fact that the Defiance mags are only offered in 10 and 15 round magazines isn't really that big of a deal either since you can just run any Atchison pattern magazine like the Black Dog mags or even the CMMG .22 LR mags.

Considering that this is an AR pattern rifle that uses an aluminum construction like a centerfire rifle and comes in at a street price of $550, a full $150 less than a competing CMMG model's street price, it might make sense to strongly consider the DMK 22 if you are in the market for a high-quality .22 LR AR pattern rifle.

Glock G45 Pistol
Glock G45 Pistol

Ft Collins, CO –-(Ammoland.com)- G45

Yesterday, I got a chance to get my hands on Glocks’s latest addition:

The Glock G45 Pistol.

The G45 is basically a G19X (9mm), with some updates and “enhancements.” First copies are now in the pipeline and will hit retailers sometime in October.

The G19X, popular since its introduction last year, is a G19 with a G17 frame, ie: a short slide and long grip.

As a concealed-carry gun, I like the regular G19 much better, but as noted, the G19X has sold well!

I commented to friends at Glock that a 9mm pistol called the “G45″ will generate no end of caliber confusion among customers. They agreed, but we both understood that the matter is now well past any chance of correction.

The G45 has several internal improvements designed to increase the useful life of the pistol. Of course, the vast majority of consumers will never shoot it, nor any gun, anywhere near enough to “wear it out.” These improvements will soon be incorporated into all new-production Glocks.

The NY Trigger (NY1), which I once recommended because it never broke, is now irrelevant and unnecessary on all Glocks Gen4 and later.

For the first time in Glock’s history, they are now manufacturing a pistol with forward slide serrations. The G45 features slide serrations in the rear, as before, but also forward of the ejection port.

Up until now, Glock’s legal department recommended against forward slide serrations and anything else that would temp fingers and hands to get near the muzzle. Apparently, they were overruled this time, in an attempt to attract non-serious shooters and others who own guns for non-serious purposes.

I think the legal department was, and is, right.

During reloading and stoppage-reduction, hands should not go forward of the ejection port, nor is there any legitimate reason for hands to be there.

Who grab slides forward of the ejection port invariably drape fingers over the muzzle! Not smart, and not necessary!

The G45, like all Glocks, runs fine.

Neither the G19X nor the G45 would be my first choice for concealed carry. As noted, the G19 works just fine for that purpose, and it has subsequently been shamelessly copied by nearly every other major manufacturer.

For more aggressively discreet concealed carry, the G43 is a good way to go (along with the S&W Shield, XD/S, Kahr PM9, SIG 365, Walther PPS/M2)

If the history of the G19X is any guide, I suspect the G45 will be a hit. But, the plain-vanilla G19 will continue to sell just fine too.

It is still my first choice!

/John

The 300LE rifle is an out-of-the-box, duty-ready workhorse
The 300LE rifle is an out-of-the-box, duty-ready workhorse

Broken Arrow, Oklahoma-(Ammoland.com)- RISE Armament, a premier manufacturer and supplier of AR firearms and components is pleased to introduce the all-new 300LE rifle. This firearm is set to be the headliner of RISE Armament’s new Law Enforcement (LE) Division — RISE LE.

Motivated by the July 7, 2016, Dallas police ambush, RISE Armament set out to ensure that no police officer is ever outgunned by a criminal. RISE made it their mission to develop a supremely accurate, highly dependable rifle that’s affordable on a law enforcement budget. The 300LE is that rifle.

“It’s important to us for officers to be equipped with high-quality, high-performance rifles that are affordable,” said Matt Torres, president of RISE Armament. “They’re putting their lives on the line for us every day, and it’s our duty to use our talents as engineers and machinists to give them the best products possible.”

RISE Armament developed the 300LE with input from SWAT/SOT/SRT officers, patrol officers, military snipers, competitive shooters, and firearms instructors to ensure it combined the best in functionality, accuracy, dependability, and affordability. From a squad car to an entry team, it’s duty ready right out of the box.

The 300LE is chambered in .223 Wylde, which is highly accurate with both .223 and 5.56 ammunition. RISE developed an advanced flash hider specifically for the 300LE, which ensures flash minimization in low-light environments to avoid affecting the user’s night vision capabilities, yet it minimizes the ring that is common with that type of flash hider. The 300LE is a feature-rich firearm that is ready to meet all the demands of law enforcement members.

300LE FEATURES:

  • .223 Wylde chambered — Accurate with both .223 and 5.56 ammunition
  • Advanced flash hider — Developed specifically for the 300LE, the four-prong flash hider ensures flash minimization in low-light environments to avoid affecting the user’s night vision capabilities. Additionally, the annoying ringing that’s typical with this type of flash hiders was engineered to be nearly nonexistent.
  • CB-160 match-grade barrel — With superior accuracy and proprietary weight reduction, this barrel is a favorite among top competitive shooters. The 416R stainless steel barrel shoots sub MOA with most factory ammo, and many shooters regularly record hits out to 600 yards with heavier, duty-type ammo. It has a 1:7 twist, ½ x 28 threads, and mid-length gas system for more manageable recoil.
  • LE Handguard — The 13.5-inch handguard has a continuous 12 o’clock top rail, MLOK slots for attachments, a slim profile for comfort, and skeletonized design for weight reduction.
  • Forged upper and lower receiver set with a classic appearance
  • LE145 Tactical Trigger — Designed for peak performance in high-adrenaline situations, it features a crisp, balanced break and 4.5-pound pull.
  • Premium black nitride-coated bolt carrier group for dependability and smoother shooting
  • Ambidextrous safety — The ambi safety features a long throw or short throw, along with interchangeable paddles, so an agency’s gunsmith can tailor the safety selector to the shooter's preference or department policy.
  • Magpul pistol grip and CTR stock
  • Includes one magazine. Iron sights and/or a Vortex Crossfire red dot sight are available as a budget-friendly add-on.
  • Backed by RISE Armament’s lifetime manufacturing warranty

RISE Armament specializes in the design and manufacturing of ARs, receivers, triggers, barrels, compensators, and more for civilian, military, and law enforcement uses. For more information about RISE Armament products, visit www.risearmament.com

How to Stay Out of Prison When Building a Rifle at Home ~ VIDEO & Check Lists

Opinion by Alex Kincaid

USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- There’s only one thing better than buying a new gun:  Making your own custom firearm at home.

Stick to Alex Kincaid’s “Three Rules for Staying Out of Prison” below, and you stand a good chance of not violating one of the many gun-control laws that can affect well-intentioned, law-abiding Americans.

What are the three rules?

  1. Be Selfish:  Build firearms for your personal use
  2. Know what you’re buying
  3. Know what you’re making

Build for Your Personal Use

The ATF has published an opinion that “Firearms may be lawfully made by persons who do not hold a manufacturer’s license under the Gun Control Act provided they are not for sale or distribution and the maker is not prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms.”

If you start helping other people finish their firearms and, especially, if you take money from them for doing so, you can wind up accused, prosecuted, and convicted of violating the federal Gun Control Act.

On top of it, if you purchase an 80% lower, and pay someone to finish it, the ATF has now said that the person finishing the lower into a firearm must have a federal firearms license to do so.

The safest route to ensure that you are not violating federal (and sometimes, state) law is to only build firearms for your own, personal use. If a friend or family member would like your guidance as they build their own rifle, instruct and assist them as they complete the task, rather than do it for them.

Know What You’re Buying

Just because something is for sale, doesn’t mean it’s legal. Think about drugs or child porn. These items are easily found and bought, but they are not legal. The same goes for firearms parts that you might find on the internet. Some parts, by themselves, may be legal, but depending on how you install them, they may make a firearm illegal.

If you buy a foregrip, is it angled, vertical, or unknown? Our laws distinguish between these different parts, and you can easily violate the federal law known as the National Firearms Act by installing certain parts on an AR-style pistol and turning it into an “any other weapon” or “AOW.”

To make matters worse, if you lawfully purchase parts for your AR rifle and install them in certain states, you may have turned a legal rifle into an illegal “assault weapon” under your state’s laws[read New Jersey], just by adding cosmetic parts. Gun control laws don’t usually make much sense, and these “cosmetic feature” laws are an excellent example of how little sense gun control laws can make. Gun owners know that a flash suppressor, a foregrip, a collapsible stock, and other parts of a rifle don’t make the rifle more deadly, but more states continue to pass “assault weapon” bans, which make adding these parts to a rifle illegal.

So, know what you’re buying and whether the parts are legal in your state.

Know What You’re Making

Basic AR 15 Rifle Kit Gun Parts
Basic AR 15 Rifle Kit Gun Parts

Do you know if the gun parts and pieces you will be assembling will create a pistol, a rifle, or short-barreled rifle (SBR)?

You need to know the rules before you start your build. Buying a lower receiver is like buying a blank slate. Technically, your lower receiver is your firearm, but before you add parts to it, it is a generic firearm. If you create an SBR by registering your rifle in the NFRTR, you cannot go backwards and turn that same lower receiver into a pistol without processing additional paperwork.

If you create a firearm designed to shoot from your shoulder, you have usually created a rifle. If you create a firearm designed to shoot with one hand, you have usually built a pistol. You can easily turn a pistol into an AOW by adding a vertical foregrip, as stated above.  In some states, if you add certain cosmetic features, you may turn a legal rifle into an illegal “assault weapon.”

If you add a shoulder stock and a barrel that is under 16” in length, you are building an SBR, and you had better pay the $200 tax, put your name on the registry, notify your chief law enforcement officer, send in photographs and fingerprints, and wait 6-9 months to get your approved tax stamp before building this firearm.  If you don’t, you are violating federal law.

If you’re building an NFA firearm – make sure you download a free copy of Alex Kincaids Form 1 Guide.  This guide will walk you through filling out Form 1 with your gun trust name.

2A Armament XLR-20 AR10 Rifle
2A Armament XLR-20 AR10 Rifle

Boise, ID – -(AmmoLand.com)- The AR15 is an incredible rifle but it largely overshadows the AR10 and its ability to shoot large calibers while retaining all the benefits of the AR15 platform. Interchangeable components and the flexibility to completely customize and accessories on the picatinny rail all come with a stock AR10.

2A Armament XLR-20 AR10

2A Armament is answering the call for large caliber, distance shooting with the superior XLR-20 design in the popular 6.5 Creedmoor caliber. The 6.5 Creedmoor has taken root among distance shooters and hunters for its accuracy qualities at short and long distances. It's an incredible round and 2A's experienced shooting staff does it justice with a rock solid, finely machined AR10 rifle.

The 2A Armament XLR-20 AR10 rifle has the option for KUIU Camo print for tactical and hunting uses. It also has a black stock option that suits most shooters as well. Like all of 2A's rifles, the XLR-20 is machined to perfection using a CNC machining process. The Full Mass bolt and carrier is cryogenically treated and creates a comfortable shooting platform ready for repetitive shooting.

The biggest advantages delivered by the XLR-20 are the precision build, durability and consistent performance with every round that passes through the chamber. When it comes to a larger rifle, many hunters and shooters are prepared to take on the extra weight. The XLR-20 is so finely tuned that it only weighs 6.85 pounds, making it lighter than most small caliber rifles. If you are trekking across long distance and hauling your rifle through the backcountry for days on end, the weight savings are an absolute game changer.

2A Armament XLR-20 AR10 Key Product Specs:

  • 2A LOWER RECEIVER – CNC machined 7075-T6 billet with flared mag-well, rear tensioning screw, rear take down spring retainer, and screw in bolt catch pin.

Arex Rex Delta Pistol, an All New Self Defense Handgun from FIME Group

World traveler, Mike Searson, gives us a first look at the Arex Rex Delta Pistol from FIME Group, ahead of its U.S release date.

Arex Rex Delta Pistol with weapon light
Arex Rex Delta Pistol with a weapon light

USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- Earlier this year I wrote about the Rex Zero 1 Tactical. It left me very impressed with not only its reliability and accuracy but also its workmanship. So when the manufacturer Arex and the US importer and distributor, FIME Group invited me on an all-expense paid trip to Slovenia to see the factory and shoot the new pistols that will be rolled out at SHOT Show; I couldn't say no.

We can talk about the factory visit next time out. This time I want to tell you about their newest pistol: The Arex Rex Delta Pistol.

In all honesty, I expected to see another SIG clone. Maybe a SIG P220 or a SIG P210, but Arex continues to surprise, and in this instance, the Delta is a polymer-framed, striker-fired 9mm handgun.

You may be thinking, big deal. If you've seen one piece of fantastic plastic, you've seen them all. Not in this case.

Arex Rex Delta Pistol – The Good

The Arex Rex Delta Pistol is an entirely new design from the ground up. Similarities to the Glock 19 will be drawn, of course, but that is just a base form of reference. If you're reading this site, you should know what a Glock 19 is. If you don't, maybe you're reading the wrong stuff.

Arex Rex Delta Pistol
All in all the Arex Rex Delta Pistol is a very well-made piece and I look forward to future in-depth testing once they are available stateside.

One of the first things we noticed were the excellent front and rear cocking serrations, and the pistol is about 2 ounces lighter than the G19 mentioned above.

However, the highlight of the Delta is the way it breaks down. You slightly pull the slide to the rear, push down the two front tabs, push the slide forward, and in a most unusual move, you flip the slide off to either side. There is no pulling the trigger or pushing down on an internal lever as one would do with a Glock or Smith & Wesson M&P, respectively.

To reassemble you simply tilt the slide on from either side and pull it rearward.

It's that simple, and it eliminates the error we have made more than once of putting the slide on at a cant and having to resort to hitting it with a rubber mallet to get it off. That was not one of our more exceptional moments.

There is a provision to add a manual safety. However, the pistols will not ship with one. This option is in anticipation of police departments or folks who live in states where a manual safety is required on semiautomatic handguns.

Of course, the pistol is fitted with a Picatinny rail to add a weapon-mounted light or laser. Spare magazines will be available from FIME as the new design rolls out for about $20 a piece and they are quality mags manufactured by Mec Gar.

Factory sights are the same size as a certain pistol manufactured in neighboring Croatia and are currently available from a few manufacturers. An assortment of holsters are in the works, and more manufacturers should come on board in 2019.

Arex Rex Delta Pistol
Arex Rex Delta Pistol with 3-dot sights

The pistol will ship with four interchangeable backstraps in order to better fit an individual shooter's hands.

I witnessed a handful of the Arex Rex Delta Pistols being shot by media colleagues and Rex employees without a single malfunction.

All in all, it is a very well-made piece and I look forward to future in-depth testing once they are available stateside.

Arex Rex Delta Pistol – The Bad

I found the factory trigger to be a bit too rough. Not just the pull, but the actual profile of the trigger was a bit abusive on the finger. FIME assured us that the final version would be much smoother and we encouraged them to get a sample gun to Randy Lee at Apex Tactical as soon as they can for something to blow the doors off this one.

Arex Rex Delta Handgun nice, but that trigger, though?
Arex Rex Delta Handgun nice, but that trigger, though?

The factory sights (black rear with white dot front) were a bit narrow and at times difficult to see. I did fire one model with three dot sights that were green and possibly Tru Glos, and that one served me well.

Truthfully, these are not bad things on an early version of the pistol and hopefully will be rectified by the time of the US release.

Arex Rex Delta Handgun after a day at the range.
Arex Rex Delta Handgun after a day at the range.

Arex Rex Delta Pistol – The Reality

The market may be flooded with plenty of striker fired 9mm polymer pistols, but the Arex Rex Delta is worth taking a look at with its innovations.

As you will see in our next article on this subject, the Arex factory is one of the most advanced firearms factories I have ever visited, and their QC is top notch.

If you heard Slovenia and envisioned a third-world type factory with workers turning out firearms on machinery made before the Second World War, you couldn’t be more wrong. These pistols are well made, reliable and have a massive potential in the CCW and law enforcement markets.

All in all the Arex Rex Delta Pistol is a very well-made piece and I look forward to future in-depth testing once they are available stateside.

Remington Model 1911 R1 – A Great Entry Level Pistol

Terril gives us a honest first impressions review of the Remington R1 1911 handgun.

Remington offers plenty of "souped up" 1911 pistols, but their base model offers the nostalgic look and feel of pistols from a bygone era.
Remington offers plenty of “souped up” 1911 pistols, but their base model offers the nostalgic look and feel of pistols from a bygone era.

U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- Remington represents a true “jack of all trades” company. The company reached prominence thanks to their New Model Army series of revolvers during the American Civil War and survived the post-war pistol drought with their successful Rolling Block rifles. In the early 20th century, Remington was as competitive as Colt or Savage in the American handgun market; but over the last several decades the company has focused on their rifles and shotguns. It was not until 2011 that Remington reentered the market when they introduced their R1–a 1911 style of handgun and one that caught my attention from its initial release.

1911 pistols are a source of frustration for me. I always had a problem with viewing these pistols not as tools but as portals of nostalgia. Further, the influx of imitations have muddied the waters. Everyone and their grandmother is making a 1911 pistol, some good, some not. Cue those who feel the need to tweak the platform with different cartridges, short reset triggers, and overzealous machining. This is mostly to meet demand. Over one hundred years after its introduction, 1911 pistols are just as prolific as ever to meet any need from self-defense, competition, even hunting. Left in the dust is the classic “GI” model. I am drawn to the basic model, similar to how the pistol was first introduced. A pistol that is both good-looking yet unrefined wrapped into one product. No fancy G10 grips, skeletonized parts, fancy finishes, and night sights. Plain walnut grips, blued steel, low profile sights appeal to me. There are a few good manufacturers of this style, but the Remington guns have been more prolific on the shelves wherever I happen to be. They certainly look nice and the price was right, so I ultimately bit on the R1.

But would this temper my hostile feelings toward a design loved by everyone else but me?

Remington R1 General Features

The standard Remington R1 represents a full sized 1911 pistol boasting a five-inch stainless steel barrel and blued carbon steel slide, frame, and appointments. The presentation is finished off with a pair of checkered walnut grips. From a distance, the R1 looks like a standard GI 1911. And the feel in hand sure is similar. The R1 is a hefty pistol, weighing in at two pounds, eight ounces fully loaded.

The "American" style magazine release, slide stop, and manual thumb safety on the left side of the pistol are placed appropriately and left in blue. The hammer is serrated for cocking the pistol but otherwise is normal sized and lacks the funky skeletonizing found on other "more hip" pistols.
The “American” style magazine release, slide stop, and manual thumb safety on the left side of the pistol are placed appropriately and left in blue. The hammer is serrated for cocking the pistol but otherwise is normal sized and lacks the funky skeletonizing found on other “more hip” pistols.

The trigger has some texturing to it as well, but it is left in-the-white. The well-milled slide serrations are in the appropriate place for the thumb and forefingers to grip.

The most obvious differences between the R1 and a standard 1911 are the three-dot sights--not large by today's 1911 standards but much higher and easier to see than GI sights.
The most apparent differences between the R1 and a standard 1911 are the three-dot sights–not large by today's 1911 standards but much higher and easier to see than GI sights.

The rear of the grip does not have the curved mainspring housing found on a typical World War II model but instead uses a checkered flat housing like those found on original 1911 models. This gives the grip a straight appearance.

Another notable difference is the inclusion of a stainless steel barrel bushing that retains the recoil spring at the muzzle of the gun.
Another notable difference is the inclusion of a stainless steel barrel bushing that retains the recoil spring at the muzzle of the gun.
We can't forget the obvious Remington trade markings either.
We can't forget the visible Remington trade markings either.

Even with these minor differences, the R1 is a 1911 not only in form but function. It is a single action handgun, meaning the handgun's hammer has to be cocked for the pistol to fire. Browning's locked breech design first used on the 1911 is of course incorporated here. The barrel tilts down to unlock under recoil and locks when the slide travels forward under the pressure of the recoil spring. A beautiful system that every modern pistol uses today. This model comes in 45 ACP, and the pistol feeds from two of the included seven-round magazines.

Initial Inspection

My R1 came in its green cardboard box with included manual, cable lock, two magazines, and a bushing wrench. After ponying up the cash for some four hundred fifty rounds of 45 ACP, I went on to take apart the pistol–my first time disassembling one in years. Disassembly is more complicated than newer designs but the more times I disassembled the pistol, it became easier. But first out of the box, the pistol was very tight and I had to use the included wrench to power off the barrel bushing so I could take the slide off. I cleaned and lubed the pistol with my standard 3-in-1 machine oil and that was all the maintenance I would go onto do. The pistol would go through testing without cleaning or lubrication and it would do better than I expected.

On The Range

The Remington R1 was my first serious reentry into automatic pistols, having shot revolvers for a long time. I am used to a tucked grip and a heavy double-action trigger pull. A tucked grip is unnecessary with an autoloader, and a 1911 has a hair trigger by comparison. With that in mind, I started by shooting at a series of targets from seven to twenty-five yards with Remington UMC 230 grain FMJ ammunition. Loading the magazines for use was an easy proposition. The mags are big, the ammunition is big, and the springs were not too tight. I could get all seven in the magazine without any trouble, which isn't always the case in some guns. Slapping the magazine into the butt of the grip and briskly racking the slide chambers the round, though at times I forgot about the thumb safety–another aspect absent on revolvers–as the pistol can't be loaded with the safety on.

Taking a firm grip to disengage the grip safety and aiming the pistol to the target was organic. Like any 1911, the R1 is a natural pointer, and the sights were easy to pick up. Taking my time offhand, I placed my seven rounds into a two-inch group at seven yards. At twenty-five, the best I could do was six inches. Could I have done better? Probably. I will throw out my excuse of dealing with a very light four and a half pound trigger pull with very short travel and reset. I am tempted to put too much finger on the trigger to leverage the twelve-pound trigger on a revolver, and some of my shots strung out to the side from time to time. The R1 proved to be a test of the fundamentals of trigger control. In later sessions, a pattern developed where my shooting was terrible starting but improving later on in the day.

The pistol points well, shoots well, and looks good doing it.
The pistol points well shoots well and looks good doing it.

Despite the good shooting, I was initially skeptical of the R1 when it came to performance. The recoil of the heavy 45 ACP round was pretty tame in this weighty pistol, though after some one-hundred round sessions, the web of my hands were getting raw.

The pistol points well shoots well and looks good doing it. But that doesn't mean I had no issues. I was more surprised by having far fewer issues than I believed. There is a fraction of horizontal play in the trigger; something considered normal for me might be unacceptable to 1911 aficionados.  Regarding malfunctions, I counted three. Three double-feed malfunctions occurred, twice using Remington and PPU 230 grain full metal jacket rounds and once while testing some Sig Sauer Elite Performance 200-grain hollow points. This leads me to believe there was an extractor lacking the right tension but as the curse of the range ended up showing, it was cured by more shooting. [new gun? limp wrist?] After hitting the two hundred round mark, I experienced no problems.

Final Thoughts

The 1911 served as the standard issue pistol for the United States armed forces for over seventy-five years. The gun's cult status is undeniable, and there is no wonder why there is such a market for it, even when technology has advanced. Remington made a good, safe choice when they chose the 1911 to be their first re-entry into the handgun market. They bring another brand to what is, frankly, an oversaturated market. Budget-friendly 1911s can be a hit or miss affair, and some will contend you need to spend thousands on a good 1911. But some of us want a taste of it without buyer's remorse. I can't tell you that the Remington is better than a Kimber or a Springfield, but what I can say is that I left the range with a gun that was far smoother of a shooter than what I expected.

Virginia Division of Capitol Police Selects SIG SAUER P320

Newington, N.H.-(Ammoland.com)- SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to announce the Virginia Division of Capitol Police has selected the SIG SAUER P320 as their official duty firearm. The Virginia Division of Capitol Police provides law enforcement for the State of Virginia Capitol Complex, and protective services for the Governor and Virginia’s First Family, the Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, the Justices of Virginia’s Supreme Court, and members of the Virginia legislature. The Virginia Division of Capitol Police traces its roots to 1618 and the first permanent English settlement at Jamestown, Virginia, and is celebrating the department’s 400 year anniversary in 2018.

“The amount of positive feedback we have received from our officers about the SIG SAUER P320 pistol has been remarkable. Overwhelmingly, my officers have noted the overall comfort of their new P320 and we are seeing it in higher range scores,” began Col. Anthony S. Pike, Chief, Virginia Capitol Police. “Overall, we could not be more pleased with our transition to the P320 as our official duty firearm as we carry out our mission to protect and serve the Capitol of the Commonwealth of Virginia.”

The P320 is a modular, striker-fired pistol available in full-size, carry, compact, and subcompact sizing. The serialized trigger group makes the P320 adaptable to multiple caliber, size, and grip options. The P320 is available in 9mm, .357SIG, 40S&W, and .45ACP, with a choice of contrast, or SIGLITE Night Sights. The intuitive 3-point takedown requires no trigger pull for disassembly, and safety features include a striker safety, disconnect safety, and optional manual safety.

“It’s an honor to welcome a department with such historical significance into the fold of the SIG SAUER Law Enforcement family, and we are pleased to earn the confidence of the men and women of the Virginia Division of Capitol Police with their acquisition of the P320 pistol as their official duty firearm,” added Tom Jankiewicz, Executive Vice President, Law Enforcement Sales, SIG SAUER Inc.

Taurus USA Announces New G2C .40 Caliber Semi-Auto Pistol is Now Shipping

Miami, FL-(Ammoland.com)- Taurus USA sets the new standard for concealed carry handguns with the introduction of the new Taurus G2C series semi-automatic pistols. These streamlined, performance-driven autoloaders strike the ideal balance between comfort and confidence in both self-defense and target shooting conditions.

Chambered in .40 S&W caliber, the new G2C pistol is built on a rugged polymer frame that includes aggressive stipling, ergonomically placed along the grip to ensure firearm retention and to maintain positive hand alignment for optimal accuracy. The compact profile (1.25″ wide x 6.25″ long x 5.0″ tall) combined with the 10-round (.40 S&W) capacity magazines' contoured grip extension delivers a solid, comfortable hold for small- or large-hand shooters.

Operation of the G2C is straightforward, thanks to a striker-fire, double-action trigger system that includes restrike capability. A manual, external safety is located conveniently above the thumb for quick manipulation in stressful conditions. The reversible magazine release is also ergonomically positioned for rapid, one-hand mag drops during tactical mag changes. Integrated into the G2C frame is a Mil-STD 1913 Picatinny rail to accept an accessory light or a laser.

The G2C is available in either the 9mm Luger and the .40 S&W G2C and both models are offered with either a matte black carbon steel slide or with a matte stainless-steel slide. The slide contours blend with the frame to promote a smooth, snag-free draw and re-holster. Precision-cut slide serrations provide a no-slip grip when charging the pistol. Topping the slide is a fixed white dot front sight and a dual white dot rear sight with elevation and windage adjustment.

Developing a handgun with the ideal mix of solid, reliable performance, an ergonomic design suited for a wide range of shooters, and a compact, lightweight profile that wears comfortable and “prints light” for everyday carry is no simple matter. The new Taurus G2C series checks off all these “must-have” boxes in single pistol platform…and raises the benchmark in the CCW arena.
