Century Arms Heavy Duty VSKA AK Rifle
Century Arms Heavy Duty VSKA AK Rifle

Delray Beach, Fla. – -(AmmoLand.com)- Century Arms, North America’s premier AK manufacturer, is excited to announce their new heavy duty AK rifle, the VSKA (vis-kuh), is now shipping. Re-engineered with critical components using machined S7 tool steel, the VSKA is the result of a special development program for a United States government project that was finalized in 2017.

“It’s very exciting for us to finally see the VKSA start shipping to the commercial market,” said Jason Karvois, Century’s Director of Sales. “We have been working on this project for some time now and the conclusive feedback we received from the U.S. government was clear evidence that our efforts had paid off. Now it’s time for civilian consumers to reap the benefits of this project.”

The VSKA rifle features an all-new bolt carrier, front trunnion, and feed ramp machined from S7 tool steel and specially heat treated for maximum durability. S7, often referred to as a “Shock-Resisting Tool Steel,” is commonly used for tools like chisels and jackhammer tips as it has maximum shock resistance and high compression strength while retaining toughness. The front trunnion and bolt are machined from billet and exceeded the durability goals for the project. Additionally, the VSKA features a nitro-carburized 4140 steel bolt, a chrome-moly 4150 barrel, and sports the RAK-1 Enhanced Trigger Group for an impressive trigger pull. Along with a magnesium-phosphate finish, Century adds a little style to the heavy-duty brute with an American Maple wood buttstock and forend.

The 100% Made-in-America VSKA debuted at last weekend’s Red Oktober Kalashnikov Championships in Hurricane, Utah, the largest event of its kind in the country. “It performed flawlessly in the brutal competition and the response was fantastic from shooters who had an opportunity to get their hands on the newest American AK and try it for themselves”, said Chip Hunnicutt, Director of Marketing for Century Arms. “No matter the need, the Vermont Stamped Kalashnikov (VSKA) is built for it!”

Each VSKA will ship with one 30 round magazine and has an MSRP of $735.95.

Units are shipping now to dealers and distributors across the country. For more information on the new VSKA AK rifle, please visit www.centuryarms.com

Springfield Armory XD(M) 10mm Pistol
Springfield Armory XD(M) 10mm Pistol

GENESEO, ILL. – -(Ammoland.com)- Springfield Armory is pleased to announce a highly anticipated new addition to their polymer pistol lineup, the XD(M) 10mm. This full-size pistol is the latest variation in the series, now chambered in the popular 10mm round for more power in the highly accurate and reliable XD(M) platform.

An unprecedented torture test of 10,000 rounds was performed to prove the quality and reliability of this new addition to the XD(M) line, firing 10,000 rounds of Federal Premium Hydra-Shok 10mm ammunition through the gun with EVERY round documented on video.

No work was done to the pistol, outside of a recoil spring change and adding Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil at 2,000 round intervals. The magazines were left uncleaned and exposed to wind, dust, and grit. The XD(M) 10mm performed flawlessly under these conditions and powered through all 10,000 rounds without a single failure. The XD(M) 10mm has been meticulously engineered to ensure the pistol is as robust and reliable a defensive force as possible.

Available with a 4.5” or 5.25” barrel, the length is well-balanced when combined with the full-size grip frame for maximum controllability and comfort while shooting.  Mega-Lock grip texturing, with the option of three interchangeable backstraps, allows for a customized fit that provides a secure and natural feel in the palm of your hand.

The Melonite finished hammer-forged barrel and forged slide allow for a steady diet of full-power 10mm ammo, and the full-length guide rod lessens felt recoil. Holding 15+1 rounds, the XD(M) 10mm tames this potent cartridge for a comfortable shooting experience with each pull of the trigger.

The 4.5 inch model features a low-profile combat rear sight paired with a fiber optic front sight, while the 5.25 version has a fully adjustable target rear sight with fiber optic front. The short-reset trigger has a minimal trigger break for repeated rounds on-target, and facilitates accuracy even under potentially life-threatening personal defense situations.

“Our customers have been very vocal about their excitement at the prospect of an XD(M) chambered in 10mm,” explains Springfield Armory President Steve McKelvain.  “We are thrilled to now offer them exactly what many of them have been asking for: the power and velocity of the 10mm round delivered in the reliability of the XD(M) platform, proven through a 10,000 round torture test documented on video.”

Now available in two configurations:

  • XDM94510BHCE XD(M) 10MM 4.5”                       $652.00
  • XDM952510BHCE XD(M) 10MM 5.25”                       $779.00

Ruger American Pistol (Right Side)
Ruger American Pistol

U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE-RGR) has issued a product Safety Bulletin for certain Ruger American Pistols chambered in 9mm.

Ruger has discovered that some Ruger American Pistols chambered in 9mm may exhibit premature wear of the locking surfaces between the slide and barrel which, if ignored, can result in a crack developing near the ejection port of the slide. This typically does not occur at round counts below 10,000 rounds. The condition is easily identified during routine maintenance and cleaning, and the crack should be visible long before the pistol becomes unsafe to shoot. Ruger is committed to safety and is asking owners of Ruger American Pistols chambered in 9mm to inspect their pistols for excessive wear or cracks and, if necessary, sign up for a FREE retrofit. Ruger American Pistols chambered in .45 Auto are not subject to this Safety Bulletin.

All Ruger American Pistols chambered in 9mm with serial number prefixes “860” and “862” are subject to this Safety Bulletin and should be inspected. Ruger American Pistol owners should visit the Ruger American Pistol Retrofit Website at Ruger.com/APRetrofit to look up the serial number to determine if their Ruger American Pistol is subject to the Safety Bulletin, learn how to inspect their pistol to determine whether the retrofit is necessary, obtain additional information, and sign up for the retrofit if required.

Replacement components are being built and consumers who sign up for the retrofit will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. Those consumers will be sent a U.S. Postal Service box with a prepaid shipping label and detailed packaging and shipping instructions. The consumer should return only the barrel/slide assembly to Ruger. Ruger will inspect the barrel/slide assembly and install new components as needed, free of charge. The Company will make every effort to return each barrel/slide assembly within one week of the day it arrives at Ruger.

Ruger reminds consumers that periodic inspection of any firearm is important to ensuring its safe operation. You should clean and inspect your firearm after each range session. Proper maintenance increases the longevity of your firearm and will allow early detection of worn or broken parts.

Rock River Arms RRAGE Carbine LAR-15 Review

Rock River Arms RRAGE Carbine LAR-15
Rock River Arms RRAGE Carbine LAR-15

U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- Rock River Arms recently sent us one of their rifles known as the RRAGE. This is a lightweight carbine with a 16″ barrel and a monolithic-style upper and hand guard.

This rifle is Chambered in 5.56mm NATO and uses a carbine length gas system with a low profile gas block. It sports a 16″ chrome-moly barrel with an A2-style flash suppressor.

The 6061T aluminum free-float handguard is M-LOK-compatible and has mounting points at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. The upper receiver is made of the same material and both the Picatinny railed flat-top upper and the top of the handguard line up perfectly to give the shooter a monolithic mounting platform for improved scope options.

Rounding out this build is a standard A2 pistol grip, a single-stage mil-spec trigger, and an RRA six-position tactical carbine buttstock.

The Good

What impressed me the most about this build was the unloaded weight of 5.7 pounds. That is a full 2.2 pounds less than the M16A2 we humped as a Marine grunt back in the 1980s.

The second factor was the way the upper receiver and top of the handguard matched up perfectly. You seldom see this in non-billeted upper receivers and RRA did an outstanding job in this regard. The barrel is completely free floated to provide the best in accuracy.

The upper receiver and top of the handguard matched up perfectly.
The upper receiver and top of the handguard matched up perfectly.

Thirdly is the price. While the AR market is still pretty soft two years after the election and cookie-cutter used ARs can be had for as low as $399 these days, RRA rolled this one out at $759.99. This is very affordable for a new off the rack AR.

The Bad

I found the monolithic rail a bit on the short side for adding back up iron sights. I am still a dinosaur that likes irons on my rifles so this may be a moot point for most shooters who refer to run optics only. I get that they wanted to keep the rail short for weight savings and probably 95% of the shooters of modern sporting rifles prefer a red dot or Holosight to irons so this will make sense for most of you.

However, if you like irons, you may wish to check out a set by Ultradyne, where the front sight attaches to the barrel threads instead of a rail section. As is, you might give up an inch or two of sight radius mounting irons to the top rail, not a huge deal for a 16″ carbine, but this rifle is really intended for an optic.

All that said, we had no other problems with this rifle.

Range Time

I chose to mount an ATN X-Sight 4K Pro 5-20X on the RRAGE. My main reason for doing so was due to the distance between the rings to see if the monolithic upper could accommodate the gap. It certainly did and if you have not played with one of these scopes, they are what I call the IPhone of rifle scopes.

Rock River Arms RRAGE Carbine LAR-15
Rock River Arms RRAGE Carbine LAR-15 with ATN Day/Night scope

This is a digital day/night scope.

Standard optical night vision devices amplify ambient light from natural sources, such as the moon and stars, or manmade sources, such as distant streetlights through an intensifier tube, which projects an amplified image onto a phosphor screen before the eyepiece. Digital night vision, on the other hand, processes the external light within a coupling device and projects it to a liquid crystal display (LCD). As a result, digital night vision devices can be used in daylight, as well.

Most digital night vision devices feature several display settings that allow the rendering of the image on the LCD in green, red or gray. Green is typically the highest quality, red is used for preserving night vision and gray decreases the viewer’s light signature when viewing. Instead of looking through a scope, it is more like looking through the viewfinder of a camera.

Zeroing the scope is completely different than a traditional rifle scope, and I mean that in a good way. However, it must be done at a range as opposed to boresighting in your backyard or workshop.
The shooter takes aim at the target and after firing the first round, you must move the reticle to your point of impact, press a button and set your zero.

Even better is the fact that the scope will store multiple “zeroes” for multiple rifles, so should you want to move from a 5.56 rifle to a 458 SOCOM or to a .308 bolt gun; you can do so with minimal shift in POI (Point of Impact).
The ATN X-Sight 4K Pro 5-20X incorporates smartphone technology like we have never seen before in a rifle scope from a rangefinder to an internal ballistics calculator. Imagine a scope that “knows” the wind, range, target angle, temperature, humidity, and as we mentioned, can be set up for different rifles. You no longer have to imagine, because now it’s a reality.

Rock River Arms RRAGE Carbine
Rock River Arms RRAGE Carbine

In keeping with that smartphone spirit, the shooter can stream HD video directly from the scope, plus simultaneously record what they are viewing to the SD card inside. I am starting to think of this as the iPhone of rifle scopes.

The view looks a bit different than a standard glass optic. I was worried at first that turning up the magnification might pixelate the view, but it turned out that worry was unfounded. The view is crystal clear on every magnification setting.

This was the fourth rifle I have mounted this scope on and I was averaging 1.25-inch groups with Aguila 62-grain 5.56 ammunition at 100 yards. At times, I felt more like I was watching my shooting on television as opposed to through the scope of a rifle. While I was not able to shoot in complete darkness, I was able to do so in low light conditions, and removed the scope several times to check its return to zero. All was satisfactory on that front.

Rock River Arms RRAGE Carbine LAR-15
Rock River Arms RRAGE Carbine LAR-15

The Reality

The RRAGE is a solid performer if you are looking for a lightweight carbine and are determined on mounting an optic only. As that seems to be the trend these days, I think this would make for a fine entry level rifle for anyone looking for a home-defense or target rifle.

I liked the rifle so much that I decided to purchase this test gun from RRA and will probably use it as a dedicated night vision rifle with the ATN scope mounted.

North American Arms Sidewinder 22 LR/22 Magnum Range Review

sample cover (placeholder)
The NAA Sidewinder (top) and a NAA Mini in 22 Short that is disassembled. (bottom)

U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- We all have guilty pleasures, right? There are plenty of things I like that I am somewhat apologetic for liking. Adam Sandler movies pop up in my head. Sure the formula is tired but you might find me in the theater watching a Happy Madison production. When it comes to guns, my guilty pleasure has to be 22 caliber defensive handguns.

I know some of you are thinking 22 caliber and defensive should not be in the same sentence. To be clear, the 22 LR and 22 Magnum cartridges are rimfire rifle cartridges that lose a lot of their potential when put into pistols–especially tiny pistols. The power level is low and rimfire ignition can leave something to be desired. These rounds were never intended to be put into pistols yet somehow here we are. What we get in exchange is a handgun that be made smaller and lighter than other major caliber offerings like 380 ACP or 9mm Luger.

Convenience is the name of the game for most people who wish to carry a pistol for personal defense and sometimes the situation dictates a very small gun when a more capable one has to be left at home. I find this class of pistol absolutely fascinating. There are a few excellent snub-nosed revolvers like Smith & Wesson's Model 43c and well-made semi-autos like the Beretta Bobcat. But perhaps the most prevalent of pocket 22s today are North American Arms' Mini Revolvers. I have quite a collection of these little five-shooters. My most recent acquisition is the underreported NAA Sidewinder in 22 Magnum.

North American Arms Sidewinder 22LR/22 Magnum

The NAA Sidewinder has been out for a few years but there isn't much information out about this revolver. Unlike the standard NAA Minis, the Sidewinder does not need to be disassembled to load or unload.

The Sidewinder uses a swing-out cylinder and ejector rod like what you will find on bigger revolvers. It differs from the usual NAA design that requires the cylinder pin to be pulled from the pistol and the cylinder rolled out for loading. But it seems NAA lovers have been heaping more praise on the recent return of the Ranger II.

Truth be told, I like the way the Sidewinder looks and operates. And after months of internal struggle, I purchased one. My pistol wears a longer 2.5 inch barrel and it came with the optional 22 LR conversion cylinder. It came in the usual padded steel lockbox that NAA now ships with their guns.

The pistol is all stainless steel and comes equipped with a pair of rosewood bird's head grips.
The pistol is all stainless steel and comes equipped with a pair of rosewood bird's head grips.

On the first inspection, the Sidewinder failed to impress. The pistol is all stainless steel and comes equipped with a pair of rosewood bird's head grips. The grips are nice and the machining is well done but I was not the fan of some metal parts being left in a matte finish while other parts like the frame and cylinder were polished up. I would have preferred that the pistol be entirely matte or entirely polished.

Like any NAA Mini, the Sidewinder is a single-action revolver, requiring the hammer to be cocked for each shot and the small spur trigger fires the gun. The cylinder holds five rounds of 22 Magnum ammunition and is milled with inter-chamber safety notches so that the hammer can be rested between chambers so as not to have the hammer down on a live round. Getting the cylinder out is accomplished by pulling the knurled end of the ejector rod and swinging the cylinder out and to the right. There is no cylinder latch on the frame that may be used like on a conventional revolver. Empties are pushed out by the extractor star when the rod is hit with a finger.

The revolver's sights consist of a bead front and a very fine notch rear sight.
The revolver's sights consist of a bead front and a very fine notch rear sight.
Another fine point about the Sidewinder is that the recoil shield is dovetailed to the frame and not an integral casting with the frame.

Another fine point about the Sidewinder is that the recoil shield is dovetailed to the frame and not an integral casting with the frame. It is also worth noting that the 22 LR conversion cylinder and the 22 Magnum cylinder have no distinctive markings differentiating one from the other. I had to drop rounds into the cylinder to figure out which was which. Needless to say, we are off to a great start…

On The Range

The real reason for my buying the Sidewinder was not just a justification for another NAA but as a test platform to spot the differences between the 22 LR and the 22 Magnum. Needless to say, I had a ton (okay, not quite 2,000 pounds) of ammo to run through the Sidewinder. After a quick cleaning I set out for the range.

I could see the convenience of the Sidewinder from the very first go-around. Loading is accomplished by half-cocking the cylinder, pulling the ejector rod forward and then swinging the cylinder out. They cylinder rotates to the right, which is great for a lefty like me. I can use my weak hand to load the pistol while my strong hand retains a semblance of a firing grip on the gun. For right handed shooters, it would mean a hand change so your strong hand will be free to load. Either way, it is much easier than removing pieces off the gun just to load it. I dropped five 22 Magnum shells into the chambers and closed the cylinder.

Making the gun safe is done by thumbing the hammer and trigger so that the hammer slides into one of the safety notches.
Making the gun safe is done by thumbing the hammer and trigger so that the hammer slides into one of the safety notches.

I started out by shooting the Sidewinder on an eight-inch steel plate at ten yards. I started out with some Federal Gameshok 50 grain hollow-points–the heaviest readily available 22 Magnum loading. I took the pistol into a relatively awkward two-handed hold, cocked the tiny hammer, put the bead on the center of the plate, and then I let fly.

My first few misses zoomed over the target so I had to aim at the foot of the plate to hit dead center. My five rounds went quickly and I continued retreating from the Texas summer heat to lather myself in sunscreen and reload. After breaking open the gun, I hit the ejector rod and the empty cases were extracted out. Those long Magnum cases are not going to be fully ejected most of the time so I had to pull a few out with my fingers. I switched up brands to CCI 40 grain FMJ. This solid bullet is my choice for 22 Magnum defensive use and it sailed somewhat high when holding the bead at the bottom of the target, but close enough to hit the top of the target, five for five. Things got better when I tried out some CCI 30 grain HP+V ammunition. This high-velocity varmint load shot right to the point of aim from the get-go.

Satisfied that the Sidewinder's point of impact will vary according to the weight of loading, I decided to enjoy myself by switching to the 22 LR conversion cylinder. The change is accomplished by unfastening the screw that retains the crane of the cylinder. The Magnum cylinder fell out and the 22 LR cylinder came out with ease. Replace and retighten the screw and you are ready to fire for some cheap practice.

Replace and retighten the screw and you are ready to fire for some cheap practice.
Replace and retighten the screw and you are ready to fire for some cheap practice.

The variety of 22 LR cartridges is even more numerous than the venerable 22 Magnum and ultimately I ended up doing half of my four hundred round battery of tests with the 22 LR cylinder in place. I used my standby bulk pack ammunition, Winchester Western 36 grain hollow-points combined with a mix of CCI Copper 21 grain solids, CCI Mini Mag 40 grain solids, CCI Blaser 40 grain lead, and CCI 30 grain Stingers.

Though the 22 LR is a shorter and less powerful cartridge, recoil was about the same as the 22 Magnum. When fired, a tenacious fireball erupts from the pistol and the barrel pulls high into the air, slipping my grip momentarily before settling back down to be re-cocked for the next shot. The pistol is jumpy but it never felt uncomfortable to shoot.

Recoil was stout, but I certainly never felt it. Nor was the gun so small that I got powder burns on my hands like with the NAA 22 Short that accompanied me to the range once again. Speaking of shorts, I fired a few CCI 22 Short rounds out of the Sidewinder. Recoil and report were very low. So low I could hear the bullets ricocheting off the fifty-yard berm, but I had a few instances where the Shorts failed to fire. They had been stored in high humidity for months and it was to be expected. What was not expected was the single misfire I experienced while using 22 Magnum Speer Gold Dot defensive ammunition. It goes to show that any ammo can fail, especially in rimfire cartridges, and it is important to not only store your ammunition in a cool dry place and test your ammunition before committing it for serious use.

Despite my ability to keep a one-finger grip on the Sidewinder it proved to be a joy to shoot. I posted this ten shot group using the 22 Mag CCI 30 grain load.
Despite my ability to keep a one-finger grip on the Sidewinder it proved to be a joy to shoot. I posted this ten shot group using the 22 Mag CCI 30 grain load.

I burned through quite a few 22 LR rounds but when going after that steel plate, even out to fifteen yards, all ammunition hit to the point of aim in the center of that steel plate while the Magnum loads shot a bit high. The swing-out cylinder looks quite small and fragile compared to bigger guns, but it generally acquitted itself well in the constant loading and unloading I was doing, but I did notice that the revolver's cylinder did not fully index and lock into the frame unless that ejector rod was pulled forward again and rolled into place until it locks. It was not as instinctive as the rod springing forward automatically and shutting up just right like on a normal double-action revolver. The cylinder has to be rolled out all the way so that all the cases extract cleanly, but even so ejection started getting sticky toward the end of my test–a sign of a very dirty gun.

CCI Copper and Stinger rounds did not penetrate well, the 40 grain Mini Mags at the 12-13 inch mark did well.
CCI Copper and Stinger rounds did not penetrate well, the 40 grain Mini Mags at the 12-13 inch mark did well.

The Sidewinder is running 22 LR ammunition at about 200 feet per second slower than the 22 Magnum, even so the 22 LR is nasty. While the light CCI Copper and Stinger rounds did not penetrate well, the 40 grain Mini Mags at the 12-13 inch mark did well. Not something to shoot through auto-glass, but not something I would want to face either.

Carrying The Sidewinder

North American Arms Sidewinder 22LR/22 Magnum

The Sidewinder's standard model comes equipped with a 1.5-inch barrel, but mine came with a 2.5-inch barrel. Even so, with full loads, the Sidewinder weighs in at only 7.6 ounces. That is lighter than any micro 380 on the market and that 2.5-inch barrel is going to squeeze out the extra juice from those 22 caliber cartridges. But that longer barrel made for a problem when hunting for a holster. There is some support from NAA and other manufacturers for the standard model, but I ultimately went to Etsy to find a good leather holster for pocket carry. I realized that the shorter barreled version may be best for pocket carry but the 2.5 inches still hid well in my usual wardrobe–gray jogging pants and matching t-shirts.

Final Thoughts

As is the pattern when I finish up a review, I was left with a very dirty gun and a few fine points to ponder. I am generally harsh on NAA Mini revolvers. There is usually some minor detail that throws water on the flaming optimism I exhibit whenever I bring out a new gun to test.  I did find myself still wishing  I had the standard 1.5-inch barreled model. There are many more holster options for that model and the inclusion of a 22 LR cylinder is nice but of dubious value to me beyond ballistic testing. 22 Magnum ammunition is still going to cost less than larger caliber rounds and there is no recoil difference between the two rounds to warrant having that conversion cylinder.

With that said, the usual weak points of NAA Minis still hold true. It is a small gun to hold and can be slow to fire in a hurry, but with some practice you can work the gun pretty fast with some accuracy to boot. That accuracy was definitely helped by the small bead front sight. Sure it is small, but it is far better than the half-moon found on a standard Mini. The swing-out cylinder may never be as natural as on a big revolver but it worked pretty well for being in miniature. Would it make a difference in a fight? Probably not, but the Sidewinder is faster to reload, safer in doing so, and you aren't risking the loss of small pieces. Quirks aside, I believe the NAA-SW is NAA's best product so far and one that deserves some recognition.

Rise of the M-16 Rifle…& Political Skullduggery

Opinion by Contributor John McNair

Colt M16 Semi Automatic Rifle

Washington DC – -(AmmoLand.com)- The stout little guy occupying the couch out in the foyer of Vice President Johnson’s office had just arrived as he had many times over the last year or so. He had spent much time between Johnson and McNamara’s offices trying to help them figure out how the U.S could buy his product and in an amount that would pull his teetering company from the red. This CEO had an unusual history.

David Karr and Alfons Landa (center)
David Karr and Alfons Landa (center) Google Image Search

He was born in Paris in 1918 and had been a member of the Communist Party. He was well known around Washington D.C. due to his writing for the communist paper, the Daily Worker. He had been under investigation by the FBI for his communist dealings and by the age of thirty, David Karr, a Russian Jew, had entered the world of public relations and had become a specialist in proxy fights. He partnered with corporate raider Alfons Landa, and by mid-1958 the two of them had taken control of the Penn-Texas Corporation, a holding company valued at over 130 million Dollars in assets. They renamed the company Fairbanks-Whitney, and under Karr’s leadership, its stocks doubled in value. Previous of that merger and during September of 1955 Colt Firearms, due to mismanagement of funds, voted to merge with Fairbanks-Whitney. Colt soon owned a licence to manufacture AR-15/10 rifles. Fairchild/ Armalite decided. because of repeated failures of the basic designs. to license the AR-15/10 rifle designs to Colt/Fairbanks-Whitney in early 1959.

Colt Industries Newspaper Clipping
Creations of Colt Industries, Newspaper Clipping

Under Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, the United States military complex was beginning a new era where it would no longer train soldiers to man a particular specialty or discipline. McNamara decided it would be more beneficial to contract everything out. For instance, the Navy’s Construction Battalion (CBs) would no longer build runways and airports. President Johnson’s (LBJ) close friends and benefactors, the Brown Brothers (Brown and Root, Haliburton, KBR), would be contracted for building infrastructure. The Springfield Armory would no longer design, test, and manufacture rifles. Almost every facet of the Vietnam war was being contracted out save for the actual combat. How this was beneficial to the political factions was that money from the contracts could be readily “kicked back” to those signing the contracts as reelection funding. This new era was the brainchild of “wiz kid” McNamara…a title he and his minions were termed after they did wonders for the auto industry before coming on board the Johnson administration.

It was in this light that David Karr was there at Johnson’s office. To purchase one of Karr’s products could be beneficial to both Karr’s company and the funding of the upcoming election campaigns, but there were roadblocks.

First, potential government firearm purchases were historically submitted through the Springfield Armory, usually due to a specification being issued from the military via the Pentagon. After all, the new M-14 rifle took ten (10) years to develop and was just now being released to the troops as the latest battle rifle. Second, Kennedy had just issued in October 1963, NSAM (National Security Action Memorandum) 263, which approved of the removal of troops from Vietnam as a start to end the conflict, so there was no need for the development of a new battle rifle.

Johnson had been telling Karr, one of his close friends and benefactors, to sit tight in order to see what the future may bring.

Few people know that it was the AR-10 not the AR-15 that Armalite/Colt had been pitting against the M-14 and the FN-FAL for government testing.

Armalite AR10 Rifle
Armalite AR10 Rifle Click here for more AR images

The AR-10 lost every battle to those two superior rifles, but supposedly, due to a request from General Willard G. Wyman in 1957, the AR-15 not the AR-10 was mysteriously being considered to replace the 30 cal carbine because the carbine was wanting on stopping power. To sell the purchase of a new rifle, McNamara had to come up with some excuses. First, it was said the M-14 seemed to rise during automatic fire. The next reason was even though the new M-14 .308 cartridge was significantly smaller than the M-1 Garand’s 30-06 cartridge, (the cartridge that won WWII) a soldier could carry even more of the new .223 cartridge which was being used in the M-16.

Also, there was this mysterious battle in Vietnam where the NVA’s AK-47s supposedly outclassed the M-14s, so all of a sudden, there was a push to field this new AR-15/M-16, far smaller in size and power to the M-14.

There has been no evidence that anyone in the field complained about pitting the M-14 against the AK-47 and don’t forget that during WWII the U.S. military carried enough ammo to feed their M1 Garand’s with no problem, through every jungle, island-hopping campaign including Burma during WWII. Incidentally, the AK-47 and most other fully automatic rifles rise during full-auto fire. Eventually the M-14 had its full-auto selector removed, but more importantly, the Army had always taught its troops to shoot with most rifles on semi-auto rather than full-auto or to shoot in three-shot bursts…so why would the M-14’s rise be of any consideration? After receiving the new M-16, most Marines wanted to get their M-14s back. One Marine lieutenant even wrote a letter to the Washington Post about the continuing malfunctions of the M-16 during battle which eventually lead to a Senate investigation in 1967.

The report of the comparative evaluation of the M14, AR15 and AK47 rifles was submitted to the Army Chief of Staff, who reviewed it and forwarded it with his conclusions and recommendations to the Secretary of the Army on January 14, 1963. In the review of the report, the M14 was shown as superior to the AR15 in penetration, night firing, and reliability, and the AR15 superior to the M14 in automatic fire and transportability. Most would think penetration and reliability two of the most important considerations.

1968 REPORT OF THE M16 RIFLE REVIEW PANEL

Even after all the continuing negative reports, in January 1963, Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara concluded that the AR-15 (not the AR-10) was the superior weapon system and ordered a halt to M14 production. So he concluded in four months what it usually took the Springfield Armory years to do. Then, on November 4, 1963, McNamara authorized the purchase of 104,000 copies of the M-16(AR-15). On November 21, the day before Kennedy’s death, NSAM 273, written in Honolulu by McGeorge Bundy, reevaluated Kennedy’s NSAM 263 and returned the U.S. towards war. President Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. In January 1964, David Karr resigned as CEO, and in May the Fairbanks-Whitney Corporation was renamed Colt Industries.

A few years later David Karr was “assassinated” with poison while on the way home from Moscow. Somehow, David Karr, Johnson and McNamara and were able to circumvent the whole of the military complex protocol to sell 104,000 poorly functioning rifles to the United States government.

McNamara was at one time CEO of Ford Motor Company and was by no means an idiot. So why did McNamara decide, after all the controversy, that the unproven M-16 was a rifle needed by the U.S. military…especially in light of the new M-14 having just arrived on the battlefield after ten (10) years of development?

Furthermore, he did so against the wishes of the military? By the end of 1964, the M-16 was widely distributed to the troops in Vietnam and was subsequently adopted in 1969 as the main battle rifle, not just the replacement for the 30 cal carbine, of the U.S. military. McNamara closed the Springfield Armory for good in 1968.

The Israel Connection

You’ve been told that Kennedy was assassinated by perhaps the Mafia or Castro, the CIA or possibly by Oswald or maybe even Russia. What the public never understood was that Kennedy’s most ardent adversary was none of the above but was David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s then prime minister.

There had been an ongoing, passionate feud between Israel and the Kennedy brothers. JFK had found out that Israel had a nuclear weapons facility buried under the Negev Desert and was demanding Israel give up its ambitions for nuclear weapons and, just as passionately, demanded Israel hold mediation talks concerning repatriation and right of return for the Palestinians. Robert Kennedy, the U.S. attorney general, had discovered that Israel was smuggling vast amounts of funds into the U.S. for distribution by the AZC (American Zionist Council)… later to become AIPAC. He was publically demanding that AIPAC be listed as a foreign agent…a demand which is still being voiced today. David Ben-Gurion had been humiliated by the Kennedys when JFK refused him access to the White House for talks. Ben-Gurion also made several speeches that alluded to Kennedy being a severe threat to the future of Israel.

President Lyndon Johnson
President Lyndon Johnson

In 1967 LBJ helped quash the U.S.S liberty incident where Israel attacked a U.S. spy ship off the coast of Gaza in an effort to drag the U.S. into the Six-Day War against Egypt. If you take time to study the relationship between LBJ and Israel one might conclude there was a relationship of beneficial proportions. Many people believe that Johnson was in on the attack and not just a president who didn’t want to embarrass an ally. Understanding that David Karr was a Jew, loyal to Israel and perhaps a representative of Israel or Ben-Gurion it would be easy to conclude that the sale of the M-16 rifle may have been influenced by that relationship. By-the-way, David Karr sold Israel their first Russian-designed desalinization plant in March 1961… So he had a close relationship with Ben-Gurion. David Ben-Gurion stepped down as prime minister in May 1963…just months before Kennedy was assassinated.

So, the two people or entities which benefited the most by far by JFK’s murder were Israel and LBJ. After Kennedy’s assassination the loud demands that Israel abandons the bomb and allow the Palestinians to return to their land quickly disappeared. LBJ became president of the United States and then went on to escalate the Vietnam War for the next twelve years which, in turn, allowed Colt Industries to sell many more M-16s and made Brown and Root a world corporation. And finally, Israel had the freedom to develop many nuclear weapons while taking and developing much of Palestine for themselves.

Robert Kennedy was supposedly assassinated by a Palestinian, Sirhan Sirhan, in 1968. AIPAC (the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee) is now the most significant political action committee in the world, and they still have not registered as a foreign agent. With the help of AIPAC, Israeli citizens now occupy important and influential seats in the Senate, House, State Department, Pentagon, Education Department, and Justice Department not to mention judgeships and state offices as well.

Colt M16 Semi Automatic Rifle
Colt M16 Semi-Automatic Rifle

After almost five decades of controversy and complaint, the military has finally decided to rid itself of the troublesome AR-15 platform and the 5.56/.223 cartridge. It’s entirely possible that McNamara and LBJ never expected the M-16 to be anything other than a temporary purchase to help an important benefactor. Perhaps LBJ and McNamara thought the military would abandon the M-16 quickly after the Vietnam War and never anticipated the M-16 to hang on for decades as America’s main battle rifle.

When you take into account the probability that Israel murdered JFK and that the M-16 was purchased solely to benefit a loyal supporter becomes potently clear. The M-16 was never meant to be America’s battle rifle; it was just a favor to a friend.

USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is pleased to announce its very first offering from the Ruger Custom Shop – the SR1911 Competition Pistol.

Ruger Custom Shop SR1911 Competition Pistol

Over the past year, the Ruger Custom Shop has worked closely with professional shooting team captain and world champion competitive shooter, Doug Koenig, to develop the first Custom Shop SR1911. This full-sized 9mm pistol is the ideal SR1911 for competitive shooting in IDPA, IPSC, USPSA, Bianchi Cup, Pro Am Shooting and Steel Challenge disciplines.

“I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with Ruger's first-class engineers to develop this pistol,” said Doug Koenig, Team Ruger Captain. “New and accomplished competition shooters alike will find this to be one of the finest, feature-rich 1911 pistols available. This firearm was designed and built to win.”

This SR1911 leaves nothing to chance, featuring the precision-machined Koenig Shooting Sports low-mass hammer and competition sear. When combined with the custom flat-faced trigger shoe, precision-machined disconnector and hand-tuned sear spring, you can expect a match-grade, crisp and clean break with every trigger pull. The hand-fitted slide and frame provide a remarkably tight, yet smooth, action. The competition barrel features a polished feed ramp, fitted barrel lug, target crown and unique 1:16″ slow twist to increase accuracy with lighter weight match bullets.

The Custom Shop SR1911 sports a black nitrided stainless steel frame trimmed with a 25 lines-per-inch checkered front strap and matching checkered mainspring housing. The addition of Hogue® G10 Piranha grip panels provides for a superior grip, while the trigger guard is undercut and blended for a comfortable high hold designed to reduce muzzle flip. The stainless steel slide has an anti-glare, black nitrided top with precision-ground slide serrations, revealing an attractive, two-tone finish.

Finishing touches include a machined aluminum TechWell magazine well for lightning fast reloads, ambidextrous safety, a fiber optic front sight, adjustable serrated rear target sight, beavertail grip safety, extended magazine release, forged slide stop and integral plunger tube, along with intricate cosmetic details to give the shooter maximum performance, comfort and styling.

This pistol ships in a waterproof, fitted hard case and includes two, 10-round competition magazines, a Ruger Custom Shop Certificate of Authenticity, challenge coin, cleaning cloth, gun peg and decal.

The Ruger Custom Shop's uncompromising attention to fine details ensures a world-class level of performance suitable for the most demanding competitors and shooters.

Heckler & Koch’s VP9-B Pistol Joins The Family in 9mm

Heckler & Koch's VP9-B Pistol
Heckler & Koch's VP9-B Pistol

Columbus, Georgia — -(AmmoLand.com)- Introducing the newest option on the most ergonomic striker fired handgun available, the VP9-B in 9mm. Retail priced at $719, the VP9-B offers a new US-style reversible push button and utilizes the same magazines as the other VP9 Series. The new push-button style mag release option from HK means the VP doesn’t just fit your hand, it fits your shooting style as well.

In any firearm, especially a handgun, the many “touchpoints ”between the shooter and the firearm are critical to consistent, repeatable, performance. Now, no matter how you are built or how you shoot, the VP series just fits.

  • Depending on your shooting style, you can choose between a European-style ambidextrous paddle mag release or the new US-style reversible button. This determination must be made at time of purchase, as the two models are not convertible.
  • The most ergonomic, adaptable grip frame available allows you to interchange both backstraps and grip panels in 27 unique configurations to fit your hand.
  • The VP trigger is a real upgrade over the industry standard of many years. It has a short, light take-up with a solid, clean break; followed by a short, positive reset.

VP9-B models are made in HK’s Oberndorf factory in southwest Germany using all of the company’s advanced barrel manufacturing technologies and high level production of their machined steel slides, polymer frames, and all internal components. HK VP pistols are competitively priced and covered by Heckler & Koch’s lifetime warranty.
